Impact There's been little free-agent buzz with Gibson since the Cardinals elected to decline his $12 million club option for 2025 back in October. He's 37 but has made 30-plus starts each of the last three seasons while producing a 4.68 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. Gibson appears to be doing what he can to keep his arm ready and should eventually catch on with a club needing a veteran innings-eater.

Gibson, 37, had a solid 2024 campaign in his lone year in St. Louis, collecting a 4.24 ERA and a 151:68 K:BB over 169.2 innings covering 30 starts, but with the Cardinals looking to trim payroll they've elected to move on from the veteran right-hander.

Impact Gibson dueled with Logan Gilbert, but the St. Louis starter ultimately didn't stay in the game long enough to get the win. He threw 112 pitches (63 strikes) in his first scoreless outing since June 14. It's an encouraging effort for Gibson, who struggled to a 5.77 ERA over 34.1 innings in August. The veteran starter has a 4.20 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 143:59 K:BB through 154.1 innings over 27 starts this season. His next outing is projected to be a road start at Toronto.
