Impact Heading into the outing, Allen's was already hanging on to his rotation spot by a thread after he posted a 6.91 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over his first four starts. He quickly squandered any remaining goodwill Wednesday, serving up home runs to three of the first four batters he faced. After getting out of the first inning down 4-0, Allen retired only one of the three batters he faced in the top of the second before he was mercifully yanked from the contest. With the minor-league season set to begin next week, Cleveland will send Allen to Columbus to work on the command issues that have plagued him so far in 2021. Long reliever Cal Quantrill looks like the top candidate to replace Allen as Cleveland's No. 5 starter.

Struggles again Friday Allen (1-3) took the loss Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk in 2.1 innings versus the Yankees. He struck out one.
Impact Cleveland gave Allen a 3-0 cushion after the first inning, but he gave it back in the second on home runs by Aaron Hicks and Rougned Odor. Giancarlo Stanton then hit a go-ahead homer in the third inning before Phil Maton relieved Allen. Through four starts, Allen has a 6.28 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:6 K:BB across 14.1 innings. He'll try to keep the ball in the yard Wednesday versus the Twins.

Impact After tossing two perfect innings to begin the game, the wheels came off for Allen in the third following a Jose Ramirez error as he hit a batter and unleashed a wild pitch, with all five of the runners that reached against him eventually coming around to score.
