MLB Power Rankings: Surging Dodgers take over at No. 1
Matthew Boyd - Throwing to hittersBoyd (elbow) faced hitters in a live batting practice session Monday, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ImpactBoyd, whom the Mariners acquired last week in a deadline deal with the Giants, has been on the shelf all season after undergoing left flexor tendon surgery last September. He was diagnosed with a strain in the surgically repaired tendon in June, but after a four-week shutdown period, he was cleared to start throwing again. Boyd appears to have navigated bullpen sessions without any setbacks, so facing hitters likely marks the final hurdle he'll need to clear before heading out on what could be an extended minor-league rehab assignment. The 31-year-old southpaw may not have enough time to build up for a starting role, but he could prove to be a useful asset out of the Seattle bullpen down the stretch.

ImpactCastillo has been on the shelf since July 28, with his stint retroactive to two days prior. The right-hander reliever will likely only need a couple of rehab appearances before being deemed ready for activation, and he'd be eligible to return as soon as Wednesday.

ImpactHaggerty gave the Mariners some more breathing room with his fifth-inning two-bagger, which brought home Eugenio Suarez. The 28-year-old's bat is sizzling over the last six games, a span during which he's hitting .438 (7-for-16) with two doubles, a home run, two RBI and an additional run.

Eugenio Suárez - Productive day in winSuarez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a walk and two runs in a win over the Angels on Sunday.
ImpactSuarez opened the scoring on the afternoon with his 20th two-bagger of the season, which plated Adam Frazier. The veteran third baseman had been mired in an 0-for-13 funk over the prior three games, and Sunday's double marked only his fourth extra-base hit in the last 19 games.
