Shut down with shoulder strain The Pirates placed Oviedo on the 10-day injured list earlier Monday due to a right shoulder strain, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Impact Pittsburgh previously deactivated Oviedo prior to Monday's make-up game against Cincinnati without a specific injury attached to his name, but Stumpf's report indicates that the rookie reliever wasn't shut down for reasons related to COVID-19. Oviedo, a Rule 5 selection this past winter, will finish his first season in the big leagues with an 8.80 ERA and 1.99 WHIP across 29.2 innings. Assuming Pittsburgh elects to tender him a contract this offseason, Oviedo will likely report to Triple-A Indianapolis or Double-A Altoona to open the 2022 campaign.
