ImpactAfter Rogers made his 20th start of the season July 31, the Marlins placed him on the family medical emergency list three days later before transferring him to the restricted list last week. Rogers provided a detailed explanation for his extended absence in his interview with McPherson, noting that he chose to step away from the Marlins temporarily after both of his grandfathers passed away within one week of each other, on top of both of his parents having recently experienced serious symptoms of COVID-19. With both his mother and father now feeling healthier, Rogers is ready to turn his focus back to baseball, but he'll need time to build back up again after he was away from the team for more than two weeks. McPherson suggests that Rogers will likely throw a couple bullpen sessions this week before potentially heading out on a minor-league assignment that will consist of one or two rehab starts. Because the Marlins headed into the season with the goal of capping Rogers at 175 innings in 2021, the 23-year-old lefty shouldn't face any restrictions in his starts when he eventually returns, likely in early September. He currently sits at 110 innings for the campaign.
