Needed in relief Sunday Soroka gave up two runs on three hits over three innings of relief in Sunday's loss to the White Sox. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Impact Luis Robert took Soroka deep in the sixth inning to account for all the damage off him, but Atlanta was already facing a 6-1 deficit at that point. The early exit of Kolby Allard (shoulder) forced Soroka into action Sunday for 30 pitches (25 strikes) -- the right-hander is currently scheduled to get the start Friday, but the team could shuffle around its rotation and bump him into Allard's spot Saturday if the southpaw is forced to miss his turn, or even just to give Soroka an extra day's rest.

Inefficient in no-decision Soroka didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Guardians, allowing five hits and three walks over 4.2 scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Impact The right-hander also hit two batters with pitches and tossed a wild pitch as he managed to get only 57 of his 99 offerings over the plate before exiting. While the scoreless outing was encouraging, Soroka put runners in scoring position during every inning he worked, and it was as much good luck as good pitching that saw him escape unscathed. Atlanta's rotation plans after the All-Star break aren't yet clear, but it seems likely Soroka will get at least one more chance in the majors to continue his long recovery from multiple Achilles injuries.

Impact With Atlanta optioning rookies AJ Smith-Shawver and Jared Shuster to Triple-A Gwinnett within the past two weeks, the team looks as though it'll have rotation spots available for both Soroka and Kolby Allard until Max Fried (forearm) and Kyle Wright (shoulder) return from the injured list at some point after the All-Star break. Soroka rejoined the big club last Friday and delivered what was the best of his three starts this season with Atlanta, as he struck out seven over six innings while allowing three earned runs on five hits and no walks in a win over Miami. He'll draw a favorable road matchup versus the Guardians as he makes his second straight turn through the rotation.

Impact Soroka gave up all three runs on two homers in the third inning but otherwise looked sharp. It was his first MLB win since September 2019. The 25-year-old is still looking to return to his old form but progress is being made; over his last three outings with Triple-A Gwinnett, he registered a 1.42 ERA with 19 punchouts over 18 frames. However, he still owns a 6.89 ERA at the MLB level. Soroka may have bought himself another turn in the rotation, which is projected to be in Cleveland next week.

Impact Soroka started two games for Atlanta earlier this year, but those were both on the road. Friday's outing will be his first at home in nearly three years. Starting Friday Soroka will be called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and start Friday versus the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Impact Soroka will make his return to the big leagues after he was sent down June 5, producing a 1.42 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 19 innings in three starts with Gwinnett since being optioned.
