Dominic Smith - Dropped from 40-manThe Reds designated Smith for assignment Monday.
ImpactSmith went 5-for-26 with four runs scored and 11 strikeouts over nine games during his time as a Red. He still holds a .691 OPS on the season through 307 plate appearances and could contribute for another team down the stretch, though he would not be eligible to play in the postseason. Ty France will presumably take over as Cincinnati's primary first baseman.

Blake Dunn - Recalled from Triple-AThe Reds recalled Dunn from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
ImpactDunn went just 1-for-18 with seven strikeouts over his first two stints in the majors, but he'll now be called upon to give the Reds some additional depth in the outfield. Dominic Smith was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Dominic Smith - Out of lineup again MondaySmith is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.
ImpactIt's the second straight day he's been out of the lineup even as the opposition had a righty (in this case, Justin Verlander) on the bump. Ty France will be at first base Monday and Amed Rosario will occupy the designated hitter slot.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Noelvi Marte - Absent from Cincinnati lineupMarte is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Astros.
ImpactHe's fallen into a bit of a timeshare at third base with Santiago Espinal, who will start at the hot corner Monday. Marte had started each of the previous three games while Espinal was banged up, but Espinal was in the lineup for the three contests prior to that.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Santiago Espinal - In Monday's lineupEspinal (shin) will start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game versus the Astros.
ImpactIt will be the first start for Espinal since he fouled a ball off his left shin Friday, although he appeared as a pinch hitter each of the previous two days. With Espinal handling third base, Noelvi Marte is getting a breather.
