Joe Ryan - Placed on COVID-19 list The Twins placed Ryan on the COVID-19-related injured list Wednesday.

Impact With Ryan heading to the COVID-19 IL, the Twins summoned Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul to take the rookie right-hander's spot in the rotation Thursday against the Royals. It's unclear whether Ryan tested positive for the virus or is being deactivated as a matter of precaution, but it's possible he won't have to miss more than one turn through the rotation while he's on the COVID-19 IL. More information on Ryan's status should come by the end of the week.

Devin Smeltzer - Called up, starting Thursday The Twins recalled Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.

Impact The southpaw started Friday's game against the Royals but was sent down afterward. However, he'll rejoin the major-league club after Joe Ryan (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday. Smeltzer will step in to take Ryan's place as the scheduled starter for Thursday's game against the Royals. Over Smeltzer's first two big-league starts in 2022, he's posted a 1.74 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 10.1 innings.

Gio Urshela - Three hits in win Urshela went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's victory over the Tigers.

Impact Urshela notched an RBI single off Beau Brieske in the bottom of the second inning, driving in Max Kepler. He later added two more singles, notching his second multi-hit contest of the month and first since May 14. The third baseman has secured at least one hit in five of his last six games, batting .438 with five RBI in those contests. If he can maintain this level of production moving forward, he could see himself reinstated closer to the top of the batting order later this season.

Impact With Emilio Pagan unavailable after working two innings Monday, Duran was called upon in the ninth Tuesday. He allowed a single to Miguel Cabrera to open the frame and hit Jeimer Candelario with one out in the inning, but he was able to get Willi Castro to ground into a double play to end the game. The 24-year-old now has now converted all four of his save opportunities this year while also snagging four holds. Duran has posted a 2.53 ERA and 0.75 WHIP with 31 punchouts over 21.1 innings in 16 appearances in 2022. Pagan still appears the favorite for the ninth inning, but the rookie seems to be a budding star in the big-leagues.

Sonny Gray - Blanks Tigers over seven Gray (2-1) earned the win Tuesday after he pitched seven scoreless, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out 10 versus the Tigers.

Impact Gray was dominant Tuesday, allowing only one extra-base hit while striking out a season-high 10 batters. The outing was his longest of the campaign and he has allowed two or fewer runs in all six of his starts on the year. Since returning from the injured list May 6, Gray has posted a 1.69 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 21.1 frames in four starts. His season-long numbers now stand at a 2.60 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over six outings. The 32-year-old tentatively lines up to toe the rubber next Sunday versus the Royals.

Max Kepler - Grand slam in victory Kepler went 1-for-4 with a grand slam, a walk and two runs in Monday's 5-4 win over the Tigers.

Impact Kepler launched a grand slam off Elvin Rodriguez in the first inning, delivering the Twins an early 4-0 lead.
