Out again Sunday Cruz (knee) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.

Impact The veteran slugger was scratched from Saturday's lineup with a sore right knee, and he'll remain on the bench for the series finale. Cruz will now have Monday's scheduled off day to aid in his recovery before potentially missing additional time. Miguel Sano will serve as the designated hitter while LaMonte Wade starts at first base.

Impact If the issue never develops beyond soreness, Cruz likely won't miss very much time. The Twins could elect to be cautious with the slugger's 40-year-old knees, however, with their postseason berth all but secured.

Powers up during twin bill Cruz launched a home run in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, going a combined 4-for-6 with two walks and two solo shots.

Impact The hip issue that bothered him Sunday and Monday didn't seem to be a factor at all, as the impressive power display moved Cruz back into a tie for the league lead with 15 homers. It's also the third time this season he's gone yard in both ends of a twin bill -- setting a new Twins record -- and per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, he joins Hall of Famers Carlton Fisk and Stan Musial as the only 40-year-olds to have ever done it even once in their careers.
