Starling Marte - Takes first live BP Marte (groin) had a successful round of live batting practice Thursday, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Impact Marte told Martino afterward that his legs felt good and also confirmed that it was his first time seeing live pitching since last fall. The veteran outfielder is trending in the right direction in his recovery from dual groin surgeries, and the current expectation is that he will be close to full strength in time for Opening Day.

Impact The Mets have also mapped out a plan for Marte's Grapefruit League action, although they haven't revealed it yet. Marte underwent surgery in November to repair separated tendons from both sides of his groin, but all signs point to him being ready in time for Opening Day, barring any setbacks. Manager Buck Showalter has expressed hope that Marte can be more aggressive on the basepaths in 2023 with a healthy groin, but it remains to be seen whether the club might ease him into things early on in the season.

Mark Canha - Over stomach issues from last year Canha revealed Wednesday that he had trouble maintaining his weight last season because of gastritis, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.
Impact Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining, a condition which made it "hard for me to get calories and be comfortable, so a lot of times I wouldn't eat very much because I was afraid of getting a stomachache," Canha said. The good news is the gastritis has subsided, allowing Canha to put some muscle back on during offseason workouts. The outfielder is hoping that the added bulk will lead to more power, with Canha having a goal of hitting 10 more home runs than the 13 he clubbed in 2022.
