Beginning baseball activities Jones (ankle) is set to begin baseball activities but has not been cleared to play, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Impact Jones underwent ankle surgery in September after suffering a high-ankle sprain. He's a little bit behind the expected pace, but it's not clear if he'll miss Triple-A Columbus' Opening Day. He'll need to take a step up in 2022 after finishing last year with a .238/.356/.431 slash line, 13 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 48 RBI and 60 runs scored in 407 plate appearances. If he receives his call-up this season, he'd likely get a look in the outfield or at first base -- Jose Ramirez is the Guardians' everyday third baseman, which somewhat blocks Jones at his natural position.
