Zack Gelof - Rare three-hit effort Saturday Gelof went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs in a loss to the Brewers on Saturday.

Impact Gelof made plenty of noise out of his No. 8 spot in the order, recording his second three-hit game of August but only his fifth all season with at least that many knocks. After a poor start to the current month that was representative of how much of his season had gone at the plate, Gelof has finally started to show signs of life with the bat by posting a .286 average and .796 OPS across the 63 plate appearances covering his last 16 games.

Brent Rooker - Reaches 30 homers Rooker went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 9-5 loss to the Brewers.

Impact His two-run shot in the sixth inning off Colin Rea came when Oakland had already fallen into a 5-1 hole. Rooker has proven that last year's breakout wasn't his ceiling, and while his 30 homers matches his career-high total from last year, the 29-year-old's 87 RBI and .935 OPS blow away his 2023 production.

Joe Boyle - Fans eight in Saturday's loss Boyle (3-6) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings as the A's fell 9-5 to the Brewers. He struck out eight.

Impact It was a typical outing for Boyle, as he generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 104 pitches but issued at least three free passes for the seventh straight start in the majors, a streak that stretches back into April. The 25-year-old righty has a 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 15 innings over three outings since getting called back up, but Oakland will let him work through his control issues in the hopes that he can emerge as a reliable rotation option. Boyle is scheduled to make his next start on the road next weekend against the Rangers.

Impact Harris has been relatively effective in the big leagues this season, putting up a 2.98 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 54.1 innings. However, he's turned in a 4.94 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over 27.1 frames since being sent to Triple-A in late July. He'll presumably work out of the bullpen until he's able to find some consistency, at which point he could return to Oakland's rotation. Dany Jimenez was optioned to Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

Impact Starter J.P. Sears was atypically ineffective and chased after 3.2 innings and 90 pitches, so Stripling was called on to deploy his multi-inning capabilities and ideally spare some of his bullpen mates. The one-time starter came through as hoped, getting 13 outs on 68 pitches to serve as a bridge to the ninth inning. The outing was only Stripling's second since officially being moved to the bullpen, with his first relief appearance having come nine days prior against the Mets.

Seth Brown - On base three times Friday Brown went 2-for-3 with a run in a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Impact Brown recorded the only multi-hit effort for the Athletics on a relatively quiet night for the offense, snapping a brief three-game hitless skid in the process. The 32-year-old is showing some modest signs of life at the plate of late, with Friday's showing his third multi-hit tally in the last six starts. That stretch is a microcosm of the improvement Brown has shown since being promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas on July 11, as he sports a .302 average, .873 OPS, eight extra-base hit, 14 RBI, six walks and 10 runs in the 94 plate appearances he's logged across 30 games over that span.

Lawrence Butler - Belts 14th homer Butler went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 11-3 loss to the Brewers.

Impact He drove the second pitch he saw from Aaron Civale deep to right-center field, giving the A's an early 1-0 lead, but things unraveled quickly for Oakland after that. Butler has cooled down significantly in August, slashing .203/.250/.359 through 19 games, but on the season the 24-year-old still sports a .760 OPS with 14 homers and 11 steals in 95 contests.

JP Sears - Crumbles against Brew Crew Sears (10-9) took the loss Friday, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk over 3.2 innings in an 11-3 loss to the Brewers. He struck out three.

Impact The southpaw saw his four-game quality start streak end with a resounding thud, as Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz took him deep in a five-run second inning for Milwaukee. Sears has given up three runs or less in eight of his last 11 starts, but he's been hammered for at least seven runs in each of the other three -- volatility that has left him with a 4.50 ERA in 62 innings over that stretch despite a 1.18 WHIP and 58:10 K:BB. Sears will try to shake it off in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cincinnati.
