Impact Soto is currently part of the projected bullpen mix for Team Dominican Republic, but he has yet to report to Phillies camp in Florida due to visa complications. "At some point he's got to get into some [Grapefruit League] games before he goes to the WBC or else you're putting him at risk," Thomson said. The 28-year-old reliever was acquired from the Tigers in January and is expected to operate in a high-leverage role this season for the reigning NL champs.

Impact Nelson projects to serve as a long reliever and/or bullpen game starter this year for the reigning NL champs, but there's always the possibility that a camp injury or two could thrust him into the Opening Day rotation. He'll probably go about two innings Saturday and build up from there.

Noah Song - Reporting to camp Song transferred his Naval service from active duty to selective reserves and is expected to report to Phillies camp Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Impact Even though Song hasn't pitched since the 2019 season while he completed a two-year commitment to the United States Naval Academy, the Phillies recognized enough potential in the 25-year-old right-hander to select him in the Rule 5 draft over the winter. He remains on the military list for the time being and doesn't count toward the Phillies' 40-man roster, but he'll need to be activated and added to the big club's 26-man Opening Day roster in order for Philadelphia to retain his rights. Though he dazzled during his limited sample of minor-league action four years ago -- he compiled a 1.06 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB in 17 innings of rookie ball -- Song's usage will likely be limited to lower-leverage relief situations in 2023 if the Phillies opt to keep him on the roster.

Impact As Coffey notes, both Nick Maton and Matt Vierling were traded to Detroit in the Gregory Soto deal over the winter, so there's no obvious backup option behind Brandon Marsh in center. Enter Sosa, who certainly has the athleticism for the position, and would also provide a right-handed bat that could play in the middle of the outfield against southpaws. Sosa is battling for a spot on Philadelphia's Opening Day roster, and if he can help in the outfield, it would obviously increase those chances substantially.
