Bradley Zimmer - Lands in PhiladelphiaThe Phillies claimed Zimmer off waivers from the Blue Jays on Thursday.
ImpactPhiladelphia opened up room for Zimmer on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster by transferring Bryce Harper (thumb) to the 60-day injured list and by placing Brandon Marsh (ankle) on the 10-day IL, respectively. Zimmer, who now joins with his third organization of the season, could step into the top center-field role vacated by Marsh, a trade-deadline pickup who appeared in just 12 games for the Phillies before going down with an injury. A platoon arrangement between the lefty-hitting Zimmer and righty-hitting Matt Vierling in center would make some sense, though Zimmer had performed miserably at the plate in his limited opportunities with Toronto earlier in the season. Over his 87 plate appearances before being waived, Zimmer slashed .105/.209/.237 with a 37.9 percent strikeout rate.

Brandon Marsh - Lands on injured listMarsh (ankle/knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Aug. 17.
ImpactMarsh suffered a left knee bruise and a left ankle sprain after making a leaping catch attempt at the wall Tuesday, and he'll now be out for at least the next week and a half. Bradley Zimmer was claimed off waivers by the Phillies and will provide another option in center field.

Bryce Harper - Goes on 60-day ILThe Phillies transferred Harper (thumb) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday.
ImpactHarper isn't dealing with any setback in his recovery from the surgery he underwent in late June for his fractured left thumb, but since his return isn't imminent the Phillies opted to move him to the 60-day IL to open up a 40-man roster spot for waiver pickup Bradley Zimmer. Though Harper recently had his throwing program shut down and appears unlikely to be ready to play the outfield again this season while recovering from a torn ligament in his right elbow, he's still on track to rejoin the Phillies as a full-time designated hitter, likely on or around Sept. 1. He's scheduled to take another round of batting practice at some point this weekend, and if all goes well, he could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as next Tuesday.

Nick Lodolo - Strikes out eight battersLodolo did not factor into the decision against the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking two over seven innings.
ImpactLodolo found himself in a pitchers' duel Wednesday with Ranger Suarez, both of whom lasted seven innings and struck out eight batters without allowing a run. Lodolo tossed 64 of 98 pitches for strikes, showing good command with only two walks. Although he did not get the win, the lefty picked up a quality start, his first since July 31 and his third overall. After allowing seven earned runs in his last 9.1 innings, Wednesday's outing may have set Lodolo on the right track. He will take a 4.12 ERA into his next outing.
