Ranger Suárez - Unlikely to return when eligibleSuarez (back) is expected to throw a bullpen session either Sunday or Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
ImpactSuarez is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and the left-hander will take the first step towards being activated when he throws his first bullpen session. There was optimism from the Phillies that Suarez would be able to return during the team's four-game series in Arizona beginning Thursday, but that now seems unlikely. The left-hander was placed on the IL with lower-back soreness last week and considering Philadelphia is 5.0 games up on Atlanta for first place in the NL East, the team will likely be cautious in their efforts to get him back.
AUGUST 4ROTOWIRE
Luke Raley - Idle SaturdayRaley isn't in the Mariners' lineup Saturday against the Phillies.
ImpactRaley will get a breather Saturday after belting a three-run homer during a win in Friday's series opener. While he rests, Mitch Haniger will start in right field with Mitch Garver serving as Seattle's designated hitter.
AUGUST 3ROTOWIRE
Jorge Polanco - Back in action SaturdayPolanco (knee) will start at second base and bat fifth Saturday against the Phillies.
ImpactPolanco was forced to sit out Friday's series opener after exiting Wednesday's game due to a knee injury, but the issue seems to have subsided ahead of Saturday's contest. The 31-year-old infielder has put up a career-worst batting average (.210) and OPS (.644) through 289 plate appearances this season, but he's begun to heat up lately, slashing .273/.340/.682 with five homers and nine RBI since the All-Star break.
AUGUST 3ROTOWIRE
Jonathan Hernández - Joins major-league rosterHernandez was added to the Mariners' major-league roster Saturday.
ImpactHernandez was claimed off waivers by Seattle on Friday after he was designated for assignment by the Rangers earlier in the week. He will now join Seattle's bullpen ahead of Game 2 of their series at home against the Phillies. Hernandez has produced a 5.05 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 41.0 innings in 26 appearances, including a start, with the Rangers this season.
AUGUST 3ROTOWIRE
Jhonathan Díaz - Optioned to TacomaThe Mariners optioned Diaz to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
ImpactDiaz has given up two earned runs in one-plus innings over his two appearances since being promoted from Triple-A on Tuesday. He will now lose his spot in Seattle's bullpen to make room for Jonathan Hernandez, who was claimed off waivers from Texas on Friday.
