Losing work to Moniak Quinn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants.

Impact Quinn will take a seat for the third straight game against a right-handed starting pitcher, which seemingly signals that he's viewed as a short-side platoon partner in center field for Mickey Moniak. Neither Quinn (.284 OPS) nor Moniak (.143 OPS) have provided much from an offensive standpoint since Adam Haseley (personal) was placed on the restricted list, so it may not be long before the Phillies abandon the platoon and call up Odubel Herrera from the alternate site to handle center-field duties.

Impact Since Adam Haseley (personal) was placed on the restricted list Wednesday, Quinn has been splitting duties in center field with Mickey Moniak. Both players have now picked up two starts apiece since Haseley was deactivated, and a fairly even timeshare between the two could persist until one separates himself from the other in performance.

Impact After winning out over Odubel Herrera for the backup center field job in spring training, the switch-hitting Quinn looked like a candidate to work in the short side of a platoon at the position with the lefty-hitting Adam Haseley. However, that may not be the case, as Haseley was awarded the Opening Day start against Atlanta southpaw Max Fried. Quinn -- who has gone 35-for-40 on stolen-base attempts through parts of four seasons in the big leagues -- should still get the opportunity to put his wheels on display when he subs into games as a pinch runner or late-inning defensive replacement, but it may be tough to extract meaningful fantasy value from him if he isn't even making regular starts against lefties.

Impact Quinn is one of a number of rather evenly matched options competing for playing time in center field for the Phillies this spring. The competition thinned out a bit when Adam Haseley suffered a groin strain last week, which is expected to keep him out through Opening Day. Quinn is making a decent enough case for himself, but the strikeouts are problematic for a player who really needs to maximize his contact in order to show off his excellent speed. He struck out in 33.6 percent of his plate appearances last season. Mickey Moniak and Odubel Herrera appear to be ahead of Quinn if all that matters is spring performance, with Moniak's two homers helping him stand out from the pack, but there's still time for Quinn to emerge as the favorite.
