Padres pregame: Luis Campusano back from IL, will catch Sunday Padres catcher played four rehab games at low Single-A Lake Elsinore before rejoining team to start homestand

Returning from IL Campusano (thumb) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Impact Campusano has been on the injured list since June 22 due to a left thumb injury and has played four rehab games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, during which he went 2-for-15 with a homer and four RBI. The 25-year-old backstop said he will resume catching for the Padres on Sunday, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune, at which point he should take over for Kyle Higashioka as the Friars' primary backstop. Campusano has slashed .234/.282/.371 across 220 plate appearances this season.

Latches on with San Diego The Padres signed Edwards to a minor-league contract Thursday.

Impact Edwards had been with Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization before being released last month. Given that he posted a 1.85 ERA over 24.1 innings (albeit with 15 walks), it could have been an opt-out situation. Edwards has already made one appearance with the Padres' Arizona Complex League affiliate, striking out four over 2.1 perfect frames. He should soon be assigned to Triple-A El Paso, where he will provide veteran relief depth.

Begins rehab assignment Bogaerts (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a walk in his first rehab game with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Impact Bogaerts is expected to require 7-to-10 days on his rehab assignment, so he could be back just before the All-Star break if all goes well. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since late May with a fractured left shoulder.
