Impact Rosario has been stuck on the Padres' 60-day injured list since Feb. 16 after he underwent surgery in the offseason to address a fractured ankle. He began a rehab assignment June 6 at Triple-A, then was shut down for two weeks before returning to action June 22. Rosario had his rehab assignment paused again shortly before the All-Star break, but he resumed playing in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League last week before reporting back to El Paso. The Padres likely want the 23-year-old to play on an everyday basis, so once he's deemed ready to return from the 60-day IL, he could be optioned to Triple-A.

Preston Tucker - Rehabbing at Triple-A Tucker (foot) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso on July 14 and has gone 2-for-30 with 11:10 BB:K in nine games since joining the Padres' top affiliate.
Impact Tucker has yet to make his 2023 debut for the Padres and hasn't appeared in the majors since 2018, but San Diego nonetheless chose to add him to its 40-man roster on June 18 and simultaneously placed him on the 10-day injured list while he was tending to plantar fasciitis. The 33-year-old is back playing again and has shown strong plate discipline during his rehab assignment, but the Padres may want to see more hits fall in before reinstating him from the IL. Once activated, Tucker could serve as a fourth or fifth outfielder for San Diego.

Seth Lugo - Takes tough loss against Bucs Lugo (4-5) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on three hits over seven innings as the Padres fell 3-2 to the Pirates. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
Impact The right-hander generated an eye-popping 31 called or swinging strikes on only 84 pitches, but he got little run support and left the mound down 2-1 after solo shots by Ji-Man Choi in the second inning and Bryan Reynolds in the fourth. Lugo has delivered four quality starts in his last five outings, and since returning to the rotation in mid-June he's posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 41:5 K:BB through 40.1 innings. He faces a tough challenge in his next start, however, which is likely to come early next week in Coors Field.

Impact Padres manager Bob Melvin previously said that Soto's finger had been bothering the young slugger since spring training, and Soto will use the Padres' off day Thursday to see if there's anything to be concerned about.
