Julio Teheran - Moved to minor-league campThe Padres assigned Teheran to minor-league camp Sunday.
ImpactTeheran latched on with San Diego on a minor-league contract last November, and he got into five spring contests, posting a 5.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB over 15.2 innings. A two-time All-Star with Atlanta, Teheran has pitched only one major-league inning since a disastrous 2020 campaign during which he posted a 10.05 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across 31.1 innings with the Angels. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the right-hander has a clause in his contract giving him the right to accept another big-league offer, but it appears he'll stick with San Diego and will likely open the season at the Triple-A level.

Rougned Odor - Appears set for roster spotOdor is expected to make San Diego's Opening Day roster, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe move has yet to be made official, and Odor isn't currently on the 40-man roster, but the veteran looks to have an inside track to a roster spot with Tim Lopes and Brandon Dixon moved to minor-league camp Sunday. Odor has made his case to break camp with the Padres with a standout spring, as he's slashing .316/.422/.474 with two homers, six RBI and two steals over 45 plate appearances. If he does indeed make the club, he'll likely work as a bench bat with the ability to play second base, third base and left field.

David Dahl - Likely to make Opening Day rosterDahl appears to be in line for a spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactDahl signed a minor-league contract with San Diego in December and was given the opportunity to compete for a roster spot in spring training. He did well with the opportunity, posting a .288/.311/.458 slash line with one home run, five doubles, a triple, eight runs and 10 RBI. Though his placement on the 40-man roster has yet to be made official, it appears likely that Dahl will break camp with the big club with Brandon Dixon and Tim Lopes sent to minor-league camp Sunday. Dahl was solid major-league player in his first three seasons with Colorado, but he's been unable to do much since 2019 and didn't play in the big leagues at all last season. Dahl figures to work primarily as a bench bat and reserve outfielder during the coming campaign.

Jackson Merrill - Will open year in High-AMerrill will open the 2023 season with High-A Fort Wayne, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactThere was some chatter about Merrill making the jump to Double-A San Antonio, but that'll be put on hold for at least a little bit. The 19-year-old top shortstop prospect slashed .339/.395/.511 with six home runs, 40 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 38 runs scored over 55 games last summer between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Low-A Lake Elsinore. He was the No. 27 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of a high school in Maryland.
