Casey Schmitt - Returns to bench role Schmitt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact Schmitt started at three different infield positions in each of the last three games, going hitless across eight at-bats. Since June 19, Schmitt has mustered a .086/.202/.111 slash line over a stretch of 37 games. Though he's been valued for his defensive work, Schmitt's lack of production at the plate over a prolonged stretch looks as though it'll force him into a utility role even while the Giants are without Brandon Crawford (forearm). The Giants signed veteran Paul DeJong on Wednesday, and he's expected to take over as the team's everyday shortstop sans Crawford.

Johan Camargo - Loses 40-man roster spot Camargo was designated for assignment Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Camargo loses his spot on the Giants' 26- and 40-man rosters following the signing of Paul DeJong. He had been seeing regular action at shortstop of late for San Francisco but will now go through the waiver process.

Thairo Estrada - Three-hit performance Estrada went 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.
Impact The 27-year-old infielder notched two singles and a double against Phillies' starter Taijuan Walker on Tuesday. Estrada has now hit safely in eight of his last nine games played, going 15-for-37 with four doubles and a homer during the hot stretch.

Camilo Doval - Another blown save Doval (5-4) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday against the Phillies. He allowed two runs on two hits and issued a walk and a hit-by-pitch in one-third of an inning.
Impact Doval was tasked with protecting a 3-2 lead in the ninth, but proceeded to load the bases on a hit-by-pitch, single and intentional walk. Trea Turner then plated two with a walk-off single, resulting in the blown save and loss for Doval. After converting 33 of his first 36 save opportunities this season, the 26-year-old closer has now blown three consecutive save chances. Despite the rough patch, Doval still owns a solid 2.60 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP with 12.2 K/9 across 55.1 innings this year.

Kyle Harrison - Strikes out five in MLB debut Harrison did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over 3.1 innings against the Phillies. He struck out five.
Impact The 22-year-old southpaw received an inhospitable introduction to the MLB when Bryce Harper took him deep to right for a first-inning, two-run homer Tuesday. However, Harrison demonstrated his massive strikeout potential, as each of the first five outs he recorded against Philadelphia were via the punch out. The strikeouts come as no surprise, as he led all of minor-league baseball with 14.5 K/9 prior to his promotion, but his control issues (6.4 BB/9) were the main culprit in limiting Harrison's overall production. He completed five innings just one time in his 21 minor-league starts this year. If he sticks around in San Francisco, the rookie will undoubtedly rack up big strikeout numbers, although his inefficiency and limited pitch counts suggest that quality starts and wins may be tough to come by. Harrison tentatively lines up to face the Reds at home early next week.
