George Kirby - Inefficient in 10th lossKirby (9-10) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings as the Mariners were downed 4-3 by the Giants. He struck out three.
ImpactThe right-hander failed to complete five innings for the second time in his last three starts, but only the fourth time in 2024, with the other two short outings coming back in April. Kirby exited after 95 pitches (63 strikes), and through four starts in August he sports an uncharacteristic 6.52 ERA and 1.91 WHIP despite a 20:5 K:BB through 19.1 innings. He'll look to escape the doldrums in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the Angels.

Tyler Fitzgerald - Swipes two bags in winFitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Mariners.
ImpactThe shortstop has grown very comfortable in the leadoff spot for the Giants. Fitzgerald is batting .307 (27-for-88) through 21 games in August with five homers, nine steals, 10 RBI and 14 runs, and despite the fact that he didn't take over a full-time role until after the All-Star break, the 26-year-old has a legitimate shot at a 20-20 campaign -- he's up to 14 homers and 16 steals in only 68 contests.

Ryan Walker - Notches third saveWalker gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his third save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Mariners.
ImpactThe right-hander continues to thrive in a high-leverage role. Walker hasn't allowed an earned run since July 27, and over 11 appearances since then he's posted a 0.63 WHIP and 24:2 K:BB in 12.2 innings to go along with his pristine ERA and all three of his saves. Camilo Doval was called back up Saturday and worked in a setup role ahead of Walker, but there's no sign that the former is going to get back into the closer mix for the Giants any time soon.

Blake Snell - Controls deserts him SaturdaySnell came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Mariners, giving up two runs over three no-hit innings. He walked six and struck out five.
ImpactThe southpaw needed 74 pitches (42 strikes) to record only nine outs in his shortest outing since April 8. Snell hasn't walked more than three batters in a start since May 22 and he hadn't struck out fewer than eight since July 22, with Saturday's poor performance snapping a seven-game quality start streak in which he'd posted a 1.14 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 67:13 K:BB in 47.1 innings. Snell will look to shake this one off in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Marlins.
