Logan Gilbert - Goes six innings in no-decision Gilbert did not factor in the decision against Houston on Thursday, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

Impact Gilbert served up a two-run homer to Alex Bregman in the first inning, but he didn't allow the Astros to score again during his subsequent five frames. The right-hander has faced Houston in each of his past two starts and has ended up with almost identical stat lines, allowing two runs on five hits across six innings in each game. He hasn't picked up a win in either outing, though, and remains without a victory since he beat San Diego on July 5.

Impact Giles has been on the injured list since July 9 due to tightness behind his right shoulder but has been cleared to face hitters. Since the right-hander has dealt with various injuries over the last few years, it wouldn't be surprising to see him require a rehab assignment before he's cleared to rejoin the Mariners.

Impact While it's not yet clear which minor-league affiliate Trammell will join, his rehab assignment should be the final step in his recovery process. He's been on the injured list since June 29 due to a right hamstring strain but took batting practice Monday.

Diego Castillo - Likely to return after 15 days Manager Scott Servais said Thursday that he expects Castillo (shoulder) to return after missing the minimum of 15 days, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Impact Castillo landed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation Thursday, but the issue doesn't seem to be a significant concern. Servais said the right-hander would likely be able to return after 5-6 days, but the Mariners elected to place him on the IL to avoid a shorthanded bullpen. Andres Munoz and Matt Festa will likely see increased high-leverage chances ahead of closer Paul Sewald while Castillo is sidelined.

Sam Haggerty - Playing time likely to drop Haggerty is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Impact Haggerty is on the bench for the second time in three contests, and he appears set to lose out on playing time after Kyle Lewis returned from the injured list last weekend and after Julio Rodriguez recently returned from a four-game absence. Mitch Haniger (ankle) is also in the midst of a minor-league rehab assignment and could be activated from the 60-day IL within the next few days, further blocking Haggerty's path to consistent playing time in the outfield. Impact Haggerty wreaked some havoc out of the No. 9 spot in the order, lacing his second and third extra-base hits over the last four games. The 28-year-old continues to produce more often than not with a recent stretch of playing time that's largely been the byproduct of Mitch Haniger's (ankle) IL stint, as Haggerty boasts a .351/.385/.622 slash line with Wednesday's two doubles, a triple, two home runs, six RBI, three steals and 10 runs across his last 13 games.

Diego Castillo - Placed on injured list Castillo was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation Thursday, retroactive to July 26.

Impact Castillo wasn't particularly sharp Monday against the Rangers, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in one-third of an inning, and it's possible that his injury contributed with his struggles. The 28-year-old missed a week and a half last year due to shoulder inflammation, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return following a minimal IL stint this time around. Castillo's seven wins this year rank second among all relievers, while he's converted all six of his save chances with four holds. Paul Sewald should see the majority of the closing duties with Castillo sidelined, while Andres Munoz and Matt Festa could also take on additional high-leverage work.

Matt Brash - Rejoining big club The Mariners recalled Brash from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

Impact Brash will begin his third stint of the season with the big club, serving as a reliever for the second straight time after he had previously been part of the Mariners' Opening Day rotation. Seattle could revisit the idea of developing Brash as a starter in 2023, but for the remainder of the current campaign, the hard-throwing right-hander looks like he'll be a full-time member of the bullpen. Matt Festa - Picks up second save Festa allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Wednesday against the Rangers.

Impact Festa tallied his second save of the season, both of which have come since July 16. Paul Sewald pitched on consecutive days so likely wasn't available and Erik Swanson was used in the eighth inning, opening the door for Festa. However, each of Sewald, Swanson and Diego Castillo has picked up saves since July 13, so it's difficult to pinpoint the current occupant of the closer role in Seattle.
