Mitch Haniger - In walking boot, MRI on tap Haniger (high ankle sprain) will get an MRI and a trip to the injured list seems inevitable, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Impact He apparently got his cleat caught when he swung and hit a single in the second inning Friday. Haniger is in a walking boot and X-rays were negative. Per Divish, Steven Souza and Stuart Fairchild are the two most logical options to take Haniger's spot on the roster. Even so, the Mariners have enough depth that Abraham Toro will probably continue to get starts in the infield and at designated hitter with Jesse Winker starting in the outfield on a semi-regular basis.

Matt Brash - Hit hard Friday Brash (1-2) gave up six earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in two innings Friday against the Mariners. He took the loss.

Impact Jorge Soler hit a 468-foot two-run home run off Brash in the first inning and he kept giving up hits until Seattle was forced to pull him. Brash's fastball was averaging 96.3 mph, which was a tick above his season average (95.8 mph) and he got plenty of whiffs on his fastball (four) and slider (five), but he primarily relied on those two pitches. This outing was poor enough that it's conceivable the Mariners opt to let Brash try to get things sorted out in the minors, so it's no guarantee he will take the ball next week in Houston as scheduled.

Mitch Haniger - Suffers high ankle sprain Haniger left Friday's game against the Marlins with a right high ankle sprain.

Impact The team did not release a timetable for his return, but it's possible he will head to the injured list. Abraham Toro saw an uptick in playing time while Haniger was out with COVID-19, and that should be the case again while he recovers from this latest injury.

Impact Gonzales left his start Wednesday against the Rays after getting hit by a comebacker, but he escaped with nothing worse than a bruised left wrist. He hasn't been officially confirmed for his next start, which is lined up for Monday in Houston, but it looks as though he'll be ready.

Impact Koch had been with the team for just over two weeks, allowing four runs in 4.1 innings of relief. He'll be removed from the 40-man roster to clear space for Mitch Haniger, who returned from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.

Impact Haniger tested positive for COVID-19 on April 16 and spent a week and a half away from the team. Although he rejoined the Mariners on Tuesday, he required several days of workouts to return to 100 percent. However, the 31-year-old should be back in action for Friday's series opener in Miami, and he'll reclaim his role as the everyday right fielder. Prior to his absence, Haniger hit .176 with three homers, seven RBI and three runs over eight appearances.

Impact Rodriguez singled in the second, was hit by a pitch and stole a base in the fourth and reached on a fielder's choice and swiped a base in the ninth. He leads all of baseball with eight steals and has yet to be caught trying. With hits in five of the last six contests, he's raised his average to .194 but is still in search of his first big-league homer. While he tries to figure it out at the plate, he's contributing on the basepaths and in the field.

Chris Flexen - Quality start in loss Flexen (1-3) received the loss after allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in 6.2 innings in a 2-1 defeat Thursday in Tampa Bay. He struck out four.

Impact Flexen scattered six singles and was the beneficiary of two double plays. At one point he retired 12 consecutive batters. The righty has now gone six innings or more in three consecutive starts. Not known as a strikeout pitcher, he has found other ways to limit runs and has a respectable 3.38 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the season. His next start will likely be early next week in Houston.

Impact Romo initially planned to spend the minimum amount of time on the IL after he was deactivated April 13, but he's made slower progress than anticipated as he works his way back from right shoulder inflammation. The fact that he hasn't been shut down from throwing is encouraging, but since he has yet to get back on the mound more than two weeks after landing on the IL, Romo will likely need to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the big club.

Impact The light throwing session comes one day after Gonzales took a 109-mile-per-hour line drive off his left wrist Wednesday, which resulted in him exiting in the first inning of his start against the Rays. Fortunately, Gonzales avoided any structural damage to his wrist and escaped with a bruise. The injury seemingly didn't inhibit him while throwing a day later, and if he's able to complete a bullpen session over the weekend without issue, he should be ready to take the hill when his next turn in the rotation comes up Monday in Houston.

Ken Giles - Cleared to resume throwing Giles (finger) has been cleared to resume throwing, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Impact Giles sustained a tendon injury in his right middle finger in early April and has been on the injured list to begin the regular season. Although it's encouraging that he's throwing again, the right-hander will need time to rebuild his arm strength following his lengthy shutdown.
