Julio Rodríguez - Back in actionRodriguez (ankle) is batting fourth and playing DH Friday at Pittsburgh.
ImpactRodriguez tweaked his right ankle Wednesday and was held out of the starting lineup for Thursday's contest. However, he'll return to the lineup for the series opener against Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old is slashing .263/.313/.371 across 425 plate appearances this season.
AUGUST 16ROTOWIRE
Beau Brieske - Serving as opener FridayBrieske will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Friday's game against the Yankees, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
ImpactIt's the third straight appearance for Brieske in which he'll serve as an opener after he went a combined 4.1 scoreless innings in the first two. The former starter is capable of going deeper into games than most openers, whether that happens Friday could depend on how he's faring. Brant Hurter is a likely candidate for bulk relief Friday.
AUGUST 16ROTOWIRE
Colt Keith - Getting breatherKeith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.
ImpactAfter starting seven consecutive games, Keith will get the night off for Friday's series opener. In his place, Zach McKinstry will bat seventh and play second base.
AUGUST 16ROTOWIRE
Trey Sweeney - Contract selected ahead of debutThe Tigers selected Sweeney's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
ImpactAcquired from the Dodgers in last month's Jack Flaherty trade, Sweeney has slashed .267/.345/.450 with 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases over 107 contests at the Triple-A level this season. The 24-year-old has played shortstop almost exclusively in the minors and should see most of the reps there against right-handers, with Javier Baez perhaps limited to a short-side platoon.
AUGUST 16ROTOWIRE
Easton Lucas - Dropped from 40-man rosterThe Tigers designated Lucas for assignment Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ImpactLucas will lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the Tigers selecting the contracts of Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney. Lucas hasn't pitched for Detroit since July 28. The 27-year-old has a 10.29 ERA in MLB this season but posted a 3.51 ERA across 33.1 innings with Triple-A Toledo, where he'll likely remain if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
AUGUST 16ROTOWIRE
Jace Jung - Officially added to rosterThe Tigers selected Jung's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
ImpactThe first-round pick is set to make his major-league debut after hitting .257/.377/.454 with 14 home runs and 60 RBI over 414 plate appearances this season with Toledo. A left-handed batter, Jung will be the Tigers' primary third baseman versus righties, but it's unclear whether the team also plans to play him regularly against southpaws.
AUGUST 16ROTOWIRE
Akil Baddoo - Returns to Triple-AThe Tigers optioned Baddoo to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ImpactWith Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney joining the active roster, Baddoo was sent back to Toledo. Baddoo went 3-for-13 with an RBI double during his five-day stint with the Tigers.
