Josh Rojas - On base three times in lossRojas went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.
ImpactRojas has four multi-hit efforts over his last 12 games, going 9-for-32 (.281) with three extra-base hits and three steals in that span. The infielder hasn't been a big threat on the basepaths this year, going 9-for-13 on stolen-base attempts. Rojas has added a .234/.315/.351 slash line, seven home runs, 26 RBI, 44 runs scored, 18 doubles and two triples over 410 plate appearances, mainly serving as a strong-side platoon option at third base.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Luke Raley - Lifts homer in lossRaley went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.
ImpactRaley got the Mariners on the board when he took Angels rookie Caden Dana deep in the second inning. Raley started to slip late in August, going 4-for-21 with five walks over his last nine games of the month. He's now at a .237/.313/.440 slash line with 17 homers, 44 RBI, 48 runs scored and nine stolen bases over 115 games. He's a regular in the lineup versus right-handed pitchers, but his playing time has dropped with the Mariners facing southpaws in five of their last eight games.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Bryce Miller - Short start versus AngelsMiller (10-8) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Angels on Sunday.
ImpactMiller has failed to complete five innings in three of his last six starts, though this was his first loss since June 29. He threw 53 of 91 pitches for strikes in this inefficient outing, which saw him walk multiple batters for just the second time in his last 12 appearances. Miller is now at a 3.30 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 147:36 K:BB through 155.1 innings over 27 starts. He pitched a total of 151 innings across all levels last year, so he should be good for at least couple of starts before fatigue would be a concern. If the Mariners get hot in September, Miller may be asked to tough it out for the regular season, but there's a chance he gets shut down early if the team ends up out of the playoff race. For now, Miller is projected to make his next start at St. Louis.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Taylor Ward - Productive in winWard went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a second run scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mariners.
ImpactWard homered while leading off the bottom of the first inning for the second time in three games. He was also on base in the fifth when Anthony Rendon hit a two-run double that ended up being the difference in this contest. This was Ward's second multi-hit effort during his 12-game hitting streak, a span in which he's gone 14-for-47 (.298). The outfielder is up to 19 homers, 61 RBI, 58 runs scored, four stolen bases, 25 doubles and a .240/.311/.415 slash line through 131 contests overall.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Ryan Miller - Grabs hold in returnMiller (leg) allowed a hit and struck out two over a scoreless inning, earning his first hold in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mariners.
ImpactMiller was hit in the left leg by a comebacker in Friday's game, but it appears he's no worse for wear after just a one-day absence. The 28-year-old has allowed one run and posted a 4:1 K:BB over his first 2.1 innings in the majors since his call-up Tuesday. He's likely to see mostly low-leverage work as long as he stays with the big club.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Ben Joyce - Converts save SundayJoyce allowed a hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mariners.
ImpactJoyce's scoreless streak is up to seven innings over his last six appearances. In that span, he has three saves, a hold and a win while striking out eight and walking none. The flame-throwing right-hander is up to four saves and eight holds while pitching to a 2.14 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB through 33.2 innings in the majors this season.
SEPTEMBER 2ROTOWIRE
Caden Dana - Wins major-league debutDana (1-0) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out four over six innings to earn the win over the Mariners on Sunday.
ImpactDana was called up from Double-A Rocket City on Friday in advance of his debut. While his control was a little shaky, he was able to limit the Mariners to a Luke Raley solo home run in the second inning and a Victor Robles sacrifice fly in the third. Dana has improved over time in the minors in regards to cutting his walk rate -- he posted a 2.6 BB/9 while maintaining a 2.59 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 135.2 innings with Rocket City this year. The 20-year-old right-hander was sharper than Samuel Aldegheri, who debuted Friday, so if the Angels go with a five-man rotation in September, Dana has the early edge to staying in a starting role. He's tentatively projected to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers, which would hold true if the Angels opt to go with six starters.
