Shane Langeliers got three hits, including Oakland’s first triple after a strange 81-game drought without a three-bagger, and the Athletics beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3

Shea Langeliers - Three hits SundayLangeliers went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's win over Seattle.
ImpactLangeliers got the start at catcher Sunday and made the most of it with the first multi-hit game of his young career. The rookie is now slashing .316/.300/.737 since being called up on Aug. 16. It has not been all great for the rookie, however, as with another strikeout Sunday, he has struck out in each of the five games he has started and failed to record a walk, leading to his average being higher than his on base percentage.

Austin Pruitt - Records first save SundayPruitt picked up the save in Sunday's 5-3 victory over Seattle. He allowed no runs on no hits and no walks over two-thirds of an inning. He did not record a strikeout.
ImpactWith the save Sunday, Pruitt is now the fifth Oakland reliever to record a save this season. Manager Mark Kotsay decided to go with Dany Jimenez in the eighth inning as the Mariners had the heart of the lineup due up. Despite recording the save Sunday, It is unlikely that Pruitt will see many more save opportunities as the A's turned to its top five options earlier in the game after starter JP Sears completed just five innings.

Sean Murphy - Two hits in winMurphy went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the Mariners.
ImpactThe 27-year-old continued his torrid August with two more hits Sunday to improve his average to .328 in the month. This stretch has pushed Murphy to second among all catchers in hits and third in RBI. Murphy continues to prove that he is an elite backstop, and it will be interesting to see how the Athletics split playing time between him and emerging rookie Shea Langeliers, especially as Murphy is several years removed from free agency.

Julio Rodríguez - Three hits, stolen baseRodriguez went 3-for-5 with one RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.
ImpactRodriguez padded his case for Rookie of the Year as he recorded three more hits and stole his 23rd bag of the season, good for third in the AL. The outfielder has settled nicely in the leadoff spot, improving his season-long slash line to .274/.332/.474. He should continue finding plenty of run-scoring opportunities hitting in front of Ty France and Mitch Haniger.

Mitch Haniger - Homers in lossHaniger went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss against the Athletics.
ImpactHaniger took JP Sears deep to left in the third inning for his 12th long ball of the season. He has hit safely in 14 of 15 games since being reinstated from the IL on Aug. 6, batting .327 in that stretch. However, he had only hit two extra base hits in the same timeframe, so Sunday's home run could be a sign that Haniger has finally found his power stroke.

JP Sears - Earns fifth winSears (5-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over five innings in a 5-3 victory over the Mariners. He struck out three.
ImpactSears was sharp again Sunday, allowing just one run to score, a solo shot off the bat of Mitch Haniger in the third inning. The rookie needed just 79 pitches to complete five innings as he earned his second win with the A's and fifth on the season. While he sports a 1.93 ERA, his 4.54 xFIP entering Sunday suggests regression is likely to follow. He next lines up to face the Yankees this weekend.
