Kyle Bird - Dispatched to minorsThe Mariners reassigned Bird to their minor-league camp Monday.
ImpactBird, who agreed to the Mariners on a minor-league deal March 14, was in attendance at big-league camp for about two weeks before Seattle opted to reassign him. The 28-year-old lefty's lone big-league action came in 2019, when he posted a 7.28 ERA and 2.05 WHIP across 12.2 innings with the Rangers.

James Kaprielian - Resumes mound workKaprielian (shoulder) completed a bullpen session Saturday and responded well to the throwing workout, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactThe right-hander is scheduled to throw off a mound again Tuesday while he continues to build up after a bout with AC joint irritation in his shoulder delayed him to begin spring training. Because he has yet to face hitters in camp, Kaprielian is set to open the season on the 10-day injured list, but the fact that he hasn't been shut down from throwing suggests he'll avoid a lengthy absence. He could be ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment shortly after Oakland opens its regular season April 8 in Philadelphia.

Deolis Guerra - Dealing with tight forearmGuerra is considered day-to-day after he experienced forearm tightness coming out of his Cactus League debut Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactThe Athletics have paused Guerra's throwing program for the time being, with a decision on his next steps likely coming Tuesday, when he's scheduled to be re-evaluated. If he moves past the forearm issue and is deemed ready to go for Opening Day, Guerra is expected to serve as one of the main setup men for Lou Trivino, who is the most likely candidate to begin the season as the Athletics' closer. In 53 appearances for Oakland last season spanning 65.2 innings, Guerra submitted a 4.11 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 62:20 K:BB.

Brent Honeywell Jr. - Battling elbow troubles againHoneywell is dealing with an olecranon stress reaction in the back of his right elbow and has been shut down from throwing indefinitely, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicl...
ImpactHoneywell was a very exciting prospect a few years ago but simply hasn't been able to stay healthy. He missed three straight seasons from 2018 to 2020 while dealing with elbow troubles, though he was able to get back on the field last season and made his MLB debut, throwing 4.1 innings at the highest level. He looked like he had a chance to break camp with the Athletics this season but will now be sidelined yet again. It's unclear when he'll return, but it looks as though he'll miss an extended period. Honeywell has requested renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache to take a look at scans of his elbow, so more clarity on the righty's recovery timeline could arrive in the coming days, according to Kawahara.
