Dinelson Lamet - Ready to startLamet is listed as the starter for Friday's game against the Astros, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactThe Padres have handled Lamet with extreme caution thus far this season due to the elbow issue that ended his 2020 campaign prematurely. He didn't make his season debut until late April and immediately hit the injured list for a brief period due to forearm tightness after making just one appearance. Three of his five outings thus far have counted as starts, though he's handled a similar workload in all five, lasting two innings in his first four and three in his most recent appearance. That suggests he's unlikely to last longer than four innings this time around, but a return to the rotation after making multi-inning relief appearances in each of his last two trips to the mound still represents progress.

Brian O'Grady - Back in big leaguesO'Grady was recalled by the Padres on Monday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactHopefully O'Grady didn't make it far after being optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, as he'll turn around and head straight back to the big-league roster a day later. The Padres need an extra outfielder with Trent Grisham (heel) landing on the injured list in a corresponding move. O'Grady has gotten into 11 games while bouncing on and off the active roster this season but has done very little with his limited at-bats, hitting .100/.269/.150.

Trent Clark - Placed on injured listGrisham landed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left foot contusion, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactGrisham hadn't played since exiting Friday's game against the Mariners with what was originally called a bruised heel. He's now already onto his second trip to the injured list of the season, as he missed the start of the year with a hamstring strain, but he's been excellent when available, hitting .301 with six homers and seven steals in 36 games. Brian O'Grady will be called up to take his place on the roster.

Manny Machado - Remains sidelinedMachado (shoulder) will sit for the fourth straight game Monday against Milwaukee, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactA tight shoulder has kept Machado sidelined since Wednesday. He went hitless in five of his last eight games, a slump which could potentially have been injury-related. Ha-Seong Kim remains the third baseman in his absence.
