Abraham Toro - Enters Thursday's lineupToro is starting at second base and hitting eighth Thursday against the Rangers.
ImpactToro was not in the original lineup but will draw the start after J.P. Crawford was scratched (undisclosed). Toro was picking up regular playing time as the Mariners dealt with suspensions to Crawford, Jesse Winker and Julio Rodriguez, but he will be in line to lose playing time if Crawford's absence is short-term.

J.P. Crawford - Scratched from Thursday's lineupCrawford was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ImpactCrawford took the field for warmups but was moving slowly and appeared to be in discomfort. There's no word on the exact nature of the injury. Abraham Toro entered the lineup to play second base while Dylan Moore shifted to shortstop.

Chris Flexen - Starting on short rest SundayFlexen will start on short rest Sunday against the Rangers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
ImpactFlexen earned the win during Wednesday's matinee against the Nationals, allowing a run on six hits and two walks while striking out one in six innings. Although he threw 85 pitches during the start, the Mariners will elect to line him up on short rest for the team's final game prior to the All-Star break. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 28-year-old on a slight pitch count during Sunday's matchup in Texas.

Sean Doolittle - Suffers setback in rehabNationals manager Dave Martinez said Thursday that Doolittle will visit a doctor after experiencing soreness in his left elbow during a recent bullpen session, Matt Weyrich of NBC...
ImpactDoolittle initiated his throwing program about five weeks ago after initially landing on the injured list April 20 with a left elbow sprain, so it's somewhat troubling that he's experienced a setback without having even resumed facing hitters at this point in his rehab. The upcoming checkup with the doctor should provide more clarity on Doolittle's next steps, but even if he isn't shut down from throwing, he's unlikely to make it back from the IL until August.

Kyle Finnegan - Stepping in as closerManager Dave Martinez labeled Finnegan as "the guy" for the closer role Thursday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
ImpactTanner Rainey (elbow) has worked as Washington's primary closer this year and has 12 saves, but he's expected to miss the rest of 2022 after being placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday with a UCL sprain. Finnegan has operated in a setup role this season with 12 holds, and he has a 3.89 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB across 34.2 innings. The right-hander picked up 11 saves while operating as the Nationals' closer during the second half of last season. Washington ranks last in the league in total saves, so save opportunities could be somewhat infrequent even if Finnegan pitches well.

Adam Frazier - Not starting ThursdayFrazier isn't starting Thursday's game against the Rangers.
ImpactFrazier recorded hits in six of the last seven games and hit .346 with a homer, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base across that span. Dylan Moore is shifting to second base while Sam Haggerty starts in right field Thursday.
