Impact Gray pitched well in his first start back, and manager David Bell suspects that after the All-Star break Gray will be allowed to go deeper. "It was a little more than I expected," Bell said. "Another start or two from now, he keeps going because he was good (Friday night), but we were very satisfied with what he was able to give us. I thought it was a great start, great having him back and seeing him pitch like that."

Impact Gray threw 86 pitches (53 strikes) in his first start in over three weeks. The right-hander's lone blemish was an RBI double he allowed to Jason Heyward in the fourth inning. Through 55 innings this season, Gray has a 3.27 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 73:21 K:BB while posting a 1-4 record. He lines up for a road start in Kansas City next week.

Activated for Friday's start Gray was officially activated from the 10-day injured list prior to his Friday start against the Cubs.

Impact Gray was placed on the injured list June 9 with a right groin strain. He made a rehab outing with Triple-A Louisville on June 26, striking out five while allowing two hits across three scoreless innings. He could be on some sort of pitch count Friday given that he doesn't appear to be fully stretched out, but the Reds have not commented on how many innings they'll be looking to get out of the right-hander.

Impact Gray was initially slated to make his rehab start Thursday but a stiff back pushed the outing back to Saturday. The plan has been for the right-hander to make just one start with Louisville before rejoining the big-league rotation, so assuming that holds, he should line up to start for the Reds sometime toward the middle or end of next week.

Impact Gray was expected to begin his rehab assignment Thursday, but he'll wait a few more days as a precautionary measure. His back stiffness doesn't sound like a significant concern, so the right-hander should be able to get back on track assuming he's able to take the mound Saturday. However, Gray's minor setback could push back his potential return to major-league game action by a few days, so Tony Santillan could get another turn through the rotation.
