Michael Siani - Provides key hit in win Siani went 1-for-4 with two RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 extra-innings win over the Brewers.
Impact Siani came through with a two-run single in the 12th inning to put the Cardinals ahead for good. This was his second game back after a four-week absence with an oblique strain. He's regained a starting job in center field, relegating Victor Scott to a speed-and-defense role off the bench. Siani has been excellent defensively without being a black hole on offense, slashing .253/.296/.320 with 10 extra-base hits, 20 RBI, 37 runs scored and 15 steals over 103 contests this season.

Lars Nootbaar - Swipes bag Tuesday Nootbaar went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-4 extra-innings win over the Brewers.
Impact Nootbaar is locked in at the plate, going 19-for-60 (.317) over his last 17 games, a span in which he's been held hitless just twice. His steal Tuesday was his first since Aug. 1. The outfielder has regained a starting role in left field amid his hot stretch, with Alec Burleson at designated hitter, Jordan Walker in right field and Brendan Donovan at second base most frequently. Nootbaar is now at a .245/.329/.400 slash line with nine home runs, 34 RBI, 30 runs scored and six steals over 87 contests this season.

Impact The St. Louis flamethrower entered the 11th inning but was unable to hold a one-run lead, allowing the automatic runner to score on a Willy Adames double after striking out the first two batters. Helsley was then allowed to return in the 12th after the Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the inning and promptly set down all three batters faced. The All-Star closer has now gone 42-for-46 in save opportunities while pitching to a 2.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 59.2 innings this season.

Steven Matz - No-decision in return Matz did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-4 win against Milwaukee, allowing three runs on three hits and one walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Impact In his first appearance since April 30 due to a back injury, Matz surprisingly flashed the ability to punch out hitters, posting a season-high seven strikeouts generated via a solid 14 whiffs. However, the veteran southpaw struggled to limit damage against the first-place Brewers, as all three hits he yielded went for extra bases (two home runs and one double). Prior to this outing, Matz had pitched to a 6.18 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB across 32.1 innings this season, so this performance did represent progress despite his inability to escape the fifth inning. The 33-year-old's future in the rotation is uncertain as Lance Lynn (back) is on a rehab assignment and could overtake Matz's spot.

Paul Goldschmidt - Cracks 21st homer Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI in Tuesday's 7-4 victory at Milwaukee.
Impact The former MVP stretched the St. Louis lead to 2-0 in the second with an RBI double, his 27th two-bagger of the season. Goldschmidt returned in the fourth inning to launch a 430-foot solo shot off Aaron Civale. The free-agent-to-be has caught fire lately, hitting .342 (26-for-76) with four homers, nine doubles, 13 RBI and five runs scored over his last 20 games. Overall, he is now slashing .247/.305/.420 with 21 homers, 58 RBI, 61 runs scored and nine stolen bases across 568 plate appearances.

Lance Lynn - Yields five runs in rehab start Lynn (knee) gave up five earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight over 3.2 innings in his rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Memphis.
Impact After tossing a pair of live batting practice sessions, Lynn was able to handle a healthy workload in his rehab outing for Memphis, tossing 80 pitches (54 strikes). Though Lynn seems to be fully stretched out and healthy again after landing on the injured list July 31 with right knee inflammation, the Cardinals may want to see a sharper performance from the 37-year-old in the minors before adding him back to the big-league rotation. The Cardinals have already announced their starting pitchers through Sunday, so Lynn seems likely to make another rehab start or throw a simulated game before returning from the IL, perhaps at some point early next week.
