Dylan Carlson - Pushing to hit leadoff Carlson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 29-8 win over the Nationals. Impact Carlson has seen time as the leadoff hitter in Grapefruit League games this spring. He's now 7-for-19 with a home run, a double, four RBI and four runs scored through eight contests. He emerged as a near-everyday player for the Cardinals last season, slashing .266/.343/.437 with 18 homers, 65 RBI, 79 runs scored and two stolen bases. He doesn't have the speed usually associated with leadoff hitters, but his 9.5 percent walk rate and 24.6 strikeout rate are solid enough if he can continue to get on base at a reasonable clip. The 23-year-old has room to grow in plate discipline, and the extra at-bats he could see from hitting atop the order would bolster his counting stats.
