Curtis Mead - Missing in action Mead left a game for Triple-A Durham on July 23 with an undisclosed injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact He has not been placed on the injured list, so perhaps it is a day-to-day issue. Mead, one of the best hitters in all the minors, is hitting .293/.387/.534 with 13 home runs, a 17.9 K% and a 10.9 BB% in 72 games as a 21-year-old at Double-A and Triple-A.

Colin Poche - Struggles again Poche (3-1) allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in the ninth inning to earn the win Wednesday against the Orioles.

Impact Poche entered the game with a one-run lead but allowed a solo home run to Jorge Mateo to blow a save chance for the second consecutive day. He's struggled since late June, allowing nine earned runs across 11.2 innings and 13 appearances. Peter Fairbanks picked up the save in the 10th inning after the Rays retook the lead, further complicating the closer picture in Tampa Bay.

Impact Raley has started five consecutive games, and he's managed to collect a hit in four of them. On Wednesday, he took Tyler Wells yard in the second inning to record his first homer of the season and third of his career. Raley should continue to get regular run thanks to the depleted Rays' outfield, and in a very small sample, he's shown the ability to take advantage.

Pete Fairbanks - Notches first save Fairbanks earned a save against the Orioles on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect 10th inning.

Impact Tampa Bay had a chance to win in regulation, but Colin Poche blew a save opportunity in the ninth inning. After the Rays scored twice in the top of the 10th, Fairbanks was summoned to close things out and succeeded on only 11 pitches. This was the right-hander's fourth outing since making his season debut July 17, and it was the first time he has gotten through an appearance without allowing a baserunner. No reliever appears likely to be given the role of full-time closer in the Rays' system, so Fairbanks could earn an additional save chance or two along the way, but he doesn't currently appear to be among the top choices in such situations.

Impact Rasmussen didn't allow any extra-base hits in the contest, but the Orioles were able to string together baserunners well enough to put up three runs (two earned) against him. The Rays appear intent on keeping the right-hander relatively fresh, as he's thrown five or more innings only twice over his past six starts despite delivering a respectable 3.45 ERA during that span. Rasmussen isn't going to pick up many wins if that trend continues, but he's pitched well enough this year to deserve a roster spot in deeper fantasy leagues.
