Isaac Paredes - Two hits including homer Paredes went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Orioles.

Impact Paredes singled in the first inning before later taking Spenser Watkins deep for a solo shot in the top of the fourth frame. The homer was his 14th of the year and first in 14 games. After a red-hot stretch from June 20-July 5 where he launched eight homers and drove in 16 runs, Paredes has gone 5-for-40 with just two extra-base hits and one RBI over his last 11 contests. Overall, the 23-year-old is batting .224 with 14 homers, 29 RBI and 29 runs over 174 at-bats over 54 games in his first season with the Rays.

Shane McClanahan - Effective versus Orioles McClanahan tossed seven innings, giving up two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out seven in the loss to the Orioles on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

Impact McClanahan was able to limit the Orioles to just three baserunners in Tuesday's outing, but both of the hits he surrendered were solo home runs. Cedric Mullins launched a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first and Anthony Santander took the lefty deep for another solo shot in the fourth frame. The two long balls matched the total that McClanahan had allowed over his five prior starts combined. On the bright side, the 25-year-old extended his quality start streak to a remarkable 13 consecutive outings and McClanahan now owns a 1.76 ERA and 0.77 WHIP with 154 punchouts over 117.2 frames in 19 starts this year.

René Pinto - Rejoins big-league club Pinto was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Impact The 25-year-old was sent down July 11 after Tampa Bay acquired Christian Bethancourt, but Pinto will now return to the majors with Mike Zunino (shoulder) out for the year and Francisco Mejia (shoulder) also on the injured list. Pinto has a .204/.218/.315 slash line with two home runs and eight RBI in 17 games this year and should serve as the backup option to Bethancourt behind the plate until Mejia is reinstated.

Francisco Mejía - Out with shoulder injury Mejia was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with right shoulder impingement, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Impact It's yet another injury for the Rays, who ruled out Mike Zunino (shoulder) and Kevin Kiermaier (hip) for the season Monday. Mejia had a .992 OPS through 14 games in July and was poised to continue seeing plenty of playing time with Zunino sidelined, but the switch-hitting catcher will now be out for at least the next 10 days. Rene Pinto was called up in a corresponding move to provide depth at catcher behind Christian Bethancourt.

Impact Raley made his third consecutive start and has been in the lineup for three of Tampa Bay's first four games coming out of the All-Star break. Impact The second baseman took Austin Voth deep in the third inning, but it was all the offense the Rays could muster. The long ball was Lowe's sixth of the year and first since coming off the injured list just before the All-Star break, but he's been plenty productive during that time, going 10-for-23 (.435) in his last six games with two doubles, two RBI and five runs in addition to Monday's homer.

Corey Kluber - Downed by O's Kluber (6-6) took the loss Monday, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk over five innings as the Rays fell 5-1 to the Orioles. He struck out two.

Impact The score was tied 1-1 heading into the fifth inning but Kluber hit the wall at that point, loading the bases on two singles and a hit-by-pitch to set the stage for a four-run inning by Baltimore. The veteran right-hander got the hook after 88 pitches (66 strikes) and saw his three-game win streak snapped. On the season, Kluber carries a 3.91 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 84:16 K:BB through 99 innings. The 36-year-old's days of being a fantasy ace are well behind him.

Mike Zunino - Ruled out for season Zunino (shoulder) will undergo thoracic outlet syndrome surgery that will force him to miss the remainder of the season, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Zunino wasn't eligible to return from the injured list until at least mid-August after being transferred to the 60-day IL on July 15, but he'll be held out for the remainder of the season due to his shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old hit .148 with five home runs, 16 RBI and seven runs over 36 games in 2022 and is slated to become a free agent during the offseason. Francisco Mejia and Christian Bethancourt should continue to serve as the Rays' top options at catcher unless the team acquires another backstop at the trade deadline.
