Ben Bowden - Loses 40-man spot Tampa Bay designated Bowden for assignment Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Impact Bowden will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Since being scooped up off waivers from the Rockies in late April, Bowden had pitched exclusively out of the Durham bullpen. In nine outings at Triple-A spanning 10 innings, Bowden gave up two earned runs on nine hits and seven walks while punching out 10.

Shawn Armstrong - Receives call from Triple-A Tampa Bay selected Armstrong's contract from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Impact The Rays designated lefty reliever Ben Bowden for assignment and placed shortstop Wander Franco (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list. Before signing with the Rays on a minor-league deal earlier this month, Armstrong made seven appearances in the majors with Miami this season, covering 6.2 innings and giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks.

Wander Franco - Hits injured list with quad strain Franco was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strained right quadriceps, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Impact Franco left Monday's game against the Rangers with the injury, which turns out to be serious enough to cost him at least 10 days. Whether or not he's at risk of missing considerably more time than that is uncertain. Taylor Walls should become the primary shortstop in Franco's absence, opening up more at-bats at second and third base for Vidal Brujan and Isaac Paredes.

Impact Paredes was in the lineup for the first time in three games and continued to showcase his ability to hit for power. Across his last six starts, Paredes has three home runs and two doubles while driving in six and scoring five runs. Though he hasn't been able to find a regular starting role in the absence of Brandon Lowe (back), it's possible that Paredes begins to pick up additional playing time over either Taylor Walls or Vidal Brujan -- both of whom have struggled at the plate of late.

Vidal Bruján - Struggling at plate Brujan went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI in Monday's loss to the Rangers.
Impact Brujan reached base on multiple occasions for the first time in 15 starts this season. He's maintained a miserable .137/.196/.176 line across 56 plate appearances, and his inability to reach base has limited his ability to showcase his speed on the basepaths. Despite his struggles, Brujan has been in the lineup for 12 of 15 contests since May 14 thanks to the absence of Brandon Lowe (back).

Shane Baz - Excels in third rehab start Baz (elbow) worked around one hit and one walk while striking out four over four scoreless innings in his third rehab start for Triple-A Durham on Monday.
Impact Baz has now looked good in each of his three rehab starts, but the Rays have been ramping him up slowly as he works his way back from the arthroscopic right elbow procedure he underwent in late March. He built up to 56 pitches Monday, so the Rays may want to see him get stretched out to 70-to-80 pitches over one final rehab start before activating him from the 60-day injured list. Baz is first eligible to rejoin the Rays on June 6.

Impact The three walks were a season high, and Rasmussen also allowed two home runs for the first time in his 10 starts this year. It wasn't a sharp outing for the 26-year-old, but he's had few mistakes in 2022, so it's safe to assume this was just a bump in the road. He owns a 3.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 44:13 K:BB through 46.2 innings. He'll look to get back on track in a tough home matchup with the White Sox this weekend.
