Josh Fleming - Deployed in long relief WednesdayFleming worked three shutout innings of relief and collected a hold in Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Reds. He struck out three while giving up one hit and issuing no walks in the ou...
ImpactSince making his season debut as a starter April 4 in Washington, Fleming has made each of his subsequent three appearances out of the bullpen. Unlike Wednesday, however, Fleming's prior two relief outings had come as a primary pitcher behind an opener. After starter Drew Rasmussen exited after five innings while the Rays held a 7-0 lead, Fleming stepped in to retire nine of the 10 batters he faced before Pete Fairbanks took over in the bottom of the ninth. The Rays' decision to use Fleming as a more traditional reliever Wednesday suggests that Calvin Faucher -- who is expected to work around four innings as a starter Friday versus the White Sox -- will end up being the primary No. 5 option in the rotation until Tyler Glasnow (oblique) returns from the shelf.

Spencer Steer - Returns to lineup ThursdaySteer is back in the lineup Thursday against the Pirates.
ImpactSteer missed three games because of right knee and quad soreness, but he's all set to return to action as the Reds' starting third baseman and No. 3 hitter Thursday night versus the Pirates and right-hander Roansy Contreras. The 25-year-old has slashed .320/.424/.520 with two homers and one steal in 15 games this season.

Hunter Greene - Confirmed to start SundayGreene (tibia) is listed as the Reds' starting pitcher for Sunday's series finale in Pittsburgh, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ImpactGreene was diagnosed with a right tibia contusion after his most recent start in Monday's 8-1 win over the Rays ended early when he was struck by a comebacker, but he looks like he'll be ready to go when he he returns to the hill Sunday on five days' rest. Since suffering the tibia contusion, Greene inked a six-year, $53 contract extension that includes a $21 million team option for 2029, potentially locking him into the Cincinnati rotation for the rest of the decade.

Elly De La Cruz - Activated off minor-league ILDe La Cruz (hamstring) was activated Thursday from the minor-league injured list, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactDe La Cruz is getting off to a delayed start this season after suffering a left hamstring strain toward the end of spring training, but the dynamic 21-year-old infield prospect can now continue his rapid ascent through the Reds' minor-league system. He was assigned to Triple-A Louisville out of camp after slashing .304/.359/.586 with 28 home runs, 86 RBI, 47 stolen bases and 87 runs scored in 121 games last season between High-A Dayton and Double-A Chattanooga. A five-tool talent, De La Cruz could reach the majors in 2023.

Junior Caminero - Surpassing high expectationsCaminero is hitting .500 with four home runs, one steal, six strikeouts and four walks through 39 plate appearances for High-A Bowling Green.
ImpactHis .542 BABIP will obviously come way down, but his groundball rate is under 40 percent for the first time in his career and he has not hit an infield flyball yet. Additionally, Caminero has an elite 46.7 percent hard-hit rate, so there's no denying the quality of contact through eight games has been excellent. The 19-year-old third baseman is perhaps the buzziest young prospect in the minors and seems to be on a clear path toward top-10 prospect status by year's end.

Levi Stoudt - Optioned to Triple-AStoudt was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
ImpactStoudt got knocked around in a spot start Wednesday versus the Rays, yielding seven earned runs on nine hits and one walk over four innings. Levi Weaver (forearm) has been activated off the IL in a corresponding move and will jump into the Reds' rotation Thursday night against the Pirates.

Luke Weaver - Activated for season debutWeaver (forearm) was activated Thursday from the 15-day injured list.
ImpactWeaver will make his season debut -- and Reds debut -- in a start Thursday night against the Pirates after getting over a bout of forearm inflammation that popped up in mid-March. He signed a one-year, $2 million deal with Cincinnati over the winter, coming off a rough 6.56 ERA in 35.2 innings (mostly in relief) last year between Arizona and Kansas City.
