Kevin Kiermaier - Not on track for minimal IL stintRays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Kiermaier (hip) will visit a specialist over the All-Star break and will be "down for some time," Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times report...
ImpactThough he didn't say so explicitly, Cash's comments imply that Kiermaier won't be ready to return from the 10-day injured list coming out of the All-Star break when he's first eligible to do so. The 32-year-old is on the IL for the second time in less than a month due to the hip issue, so he'll receive another medical opinion in the days to come before a decision is made on how to treat the injury. Kiermaier's absence for the foreseeable future should help keep rookie Josh Lowe well insulated in as an everyday player in the Tampa Bay outfield.

Wander Franco - Slated to undergo surgeryFranco (wrist) will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair his fractured hamate bone and is expected to require 5-to-8 weeks of recovery time, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports...
ImpactThe 21-year-old was diagnosed with a hamate injury in his right wrist over the weekend, but the Rays didn't immediately announce whether or not he would require a procedure. With surgery now having been deemed necessary, Franco won't be in line to rejoin the Rays until at least mid-August. Taylor Walls should serve as the Rays' primary shortstop while Franco is sidelined.

Harold Ramírez - Getting Monday offRamirez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ImpactRamirez reached base three times in Sunday's 10-5 loss to the Reds, boosting his on-base percentage to a magnificent .436 since the beginning of June. His hot run of production over the past five weeks has allowed Ramirez to settle in as a regular in the lineup, but he'll get a routine maintenance day as the Rays begin a seven-game week. Ramirez had started in 13 of the Rays' last 14 games.

Isaac Paredes - Heads to bench MondayParedes is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ImpactWith 13 home runs in just 46 big-league games this season, Paredes has emerged as a surprising source of power for Tampa Bay and has stepped into an everyday role as a result. However, after going 1-for-12 with four strikeouts in the Rays' weekend series in Cincinnati, Paredes will get a day off to clear his head. The newly recalled Jonathan Aranda will pick up his second big-league start in place of Paredes, manning second base and batting out of the cleanup spot.

Christian Bethancourt - Formally added to rosterThe Rays added Bethancourt to the 26-man active roster ahead of Monday's game against the Red Sox.
ImpactThe Rays acquired Bethancourt from the Athletics on Saturday, but the team waited a couple days to make a corresponding transaction to create room for him on the active roster. With Rene Pinto heading to Triple-A Durham on Monday, Bethancourt is expected to step in as the No. 2 backstop behind Francisco Mejia while Mike Zunino (shoulder) is on the injured list. The righty-hitting Bethancourt also picked up reps at first base and designated hitter during his time in Oakland and could make starts versus left-handed pitching at either spot for the platoon-happy Rays.

René Pinto - Dropped from active rosterThe Rays optioned Pinto to Triple-A Durham on Monday.
ImpactPinto was sent to the minors after Tampa Bay added another catcher to their ranks in Christian Bethancourt, whom the team acquired from the Athletics over the weekend. Though he had seemed to work his way into a timeshare behind the plate with Francisco Mejia while Mike Zunino (shoulder) has been on the shelf, Pinto didn't perform well enough to stick around as a third backstop. Over his month-long stay with the big club, Pinto slashed .205/.225/.282 across 12 games.
