Danny Jansen - Scratched with wrist inflammation Jansen was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox with right wrist inflammation.

Impact As Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star notes, Jansen was plunked on his wrist by a Shintaro Fujinami pitch during Wednesday's game. It would seem Jansen is still dealing with some lingering effects, which brings his availability for the rest of the weekend into question. Jansen has an .853 OPS and four homers in 16 games since the All-Star break.

Daulton Varsho - Ends power drought Friday Varsho went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Red Sox.

Impact The Blue Jays launched five homers on the night in a classic Fenway Park fireworks display, and Varsho's came in the sixth inning off Mauricio Llovera as he ripped a 90.7 mph cutter deep to right field. That snapped a 37-game homer drought for the 27-year-old outfielder, who slashed a rough .164/.205/.209 over that stretch with only two steals, seven RBI and eight runs along with a 33.9 percent strikeout rate. Varsho has been showing signs of coming out of that slump, however -- he's struck out only once in the last six games, going 5-for-17 (.294) with a couple doubles in addition to Friday's long ball -- and he could be on the brink of a big August.

Impact He capped a five-homer eruption from the Blue Jays offense with a ninth-inning shot off Richard Bleier. Chapman's white-hot start to the season has faded, but he's remained reasonably productive -- in 20 games since the All-Star break, he's slashing .243/.384/.457 with three of his 15 homers on the season.

Impact The first baseman took James Paxton deep in the first inning for a solo shot, one of five Blue Jays homers on the night. Winning the Home Run Derby during the All-Star break has perked up Guerrero's power output, as five of his 18 long balls this season have come in the 20 games since, but his .230/.341/.473 slash line during that stretch remains something of a disappointment.

Davis Schneider - Homers in first MLB at-bat Schneider went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-3 win over the Red Sox.

Impact Called up from Triple-A Buffalo earlier in the day, Schneider got the start at second base and hit seventh in his debut and wasted no time making an impact, driving the third pitch he saw in the big leagues -- an 83.8 mph cutter from James Paxton -- deep over the Green Monster in the second inning. Schneider's numbers at Buffalo were impressive, and if he keeps hitting he could work his way into a short-side platoon role for the Jays, taking over at the keystone while Whit Merrifield spells one of the team's lefty-swinging outfielders. Santiago Espinal can also handle that role, but his .599 OPS on the season doesn't present a tough hurdle for Schneider to clear.

Whit Merrifield - Lofts homer No. 10 Merrifield went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-3 win over the Red Sox.

Impact The Blue Jays hit five homers on the night, and Merrifield got things started by driving the first pitch he saw from James Paxton down the left-field line and into the seats atop the Green Monster. The 34-year-old has 10 homers on the season but five of them have come since the All-Star break, and Merrifield is slashing a scorching .354/.361/.570 during that stretch with two steals, 13 RBI and 14 runs in 20 games.

Jordan Hicks - Notches first save with new club Hicks struck out one in 1.1 perfect innings of relief Friday to record his ninth save of the season, and first as a Blue Jay, in a 7-3 win over the Red Sox.

Impact The Jays held a three-run lead when Hicks took the mound in the bottom of the eighth, and the insurance run they tacked on in the ninth didn't cause him to take his foot off the gas -- the right-hander needed only nine pitches, all strikes, to get the four outs and he topped out at 99.9 mph with his power sinker. Toronto is using a closing committee with Jordan Romano (back) on the shelf, and while Hicks will likely continue to split save chances with Yimi Garcia and Erik Swanson depending on availability and matchups, performances like this will make manager John Schneider very comfortable deploying his newest high-leverage option at the end of games.

Alek Manoah - Snags third win Manoah (3-8) picked up the win in Friday's 7-3 victory over the Red Sox, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out five.

Impact The right-hander continues to battle his control and consistency -- he hit another batter with a pitch, his fourth HBP in his last three starts, and he's issued multiple free passes in four straight outings -- but Manoah has at least looked a little more confident and aggressive on the mound since being sent down to the minors to reset. In five starts since his early July return, he's posted a 4.26 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, numbers that represent a vast improvement on the 6.36 ERA and 1.90 WHIP he stumbled to over his first 13 trips to the mound in 2023. Manoah will continue his efforts to regain his old form on the road next week in Cleveland.
