Impact Left side discomfort caused Gausman to be scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Diamondbacks, but he seems to have avoided a significant injury. If he progresses well over the next few days, he could be an option to start during next week's series against the Padres, which runs from Tuesday through Thursday.

Impact Jansen opened the second half behind the plate but will turn things over to Alejandro Kirk on Saturday. Both backstops have dropped off at the plate this season after excellent years last year, though Jansen's 101 wRC+ (the product of a .227/.281/.459 slash line) beats Kirk's 78 wRC+ by a fairly wide margin.

Impact Bassitt had followed Gausman in the rotation prior to the break and had been set to start Sunday, but he'll be needed one day ahead of schedule due to Gausman's day-to-day injury. Impact Gausman has been one of the best starters in the league this season, recording a 3.03 ERA and a career-high 32.6 percent strikeout rate in 19 starts prior to the break. Losing him for an extended period would be a big blow, but for now, the issue appears relatively minor. An MRI showed nothing of concern, so the righty is merely considered day-to-day for now. Toronto has an off day Monday, so it's possible Gausman can skip just one start and avoid the injured list. Chris Bassitt will take the hill Saturday.

The 24-year-old first baseman is up to 14 homers and 59 RBI on the season through 89 games with a .276/.344/.451 slash line, but he's more than capable of accelerating that pace down the stretch.
