Kevin Gausman - Won't start in Padres series Gausman (side) won't start during the Blue Jays' upcoming series against the Padres, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
Impact The Blue Jays recently said that Gausman isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list as he deals with left side discomfort, but manager John Schneider said Sunday that he wants to give the right-hander "a little bit of extra rest." The earliest Gauman would take the mound would be Friday in Seattle, but a firm date for his next start hasn't yet been revealed.

Yimi García - Nabs second save Garcia picked up the save Saturday against the Diamondbacks, allowing two hits while striking out one over a scoreless inning.
Impact With Jordan Romano still recovering from a lower back injury, Garcia entered the contest with a 5-2 lead in the ninth inning and got into trouble early after allowing singles to Lourdes Gurriel and Jake McCarthy. However, the right-handed reliever managed to pitch his way out of it, needing just four pitches to retire the final two batters and secure his second save of the season. Garcia is now 2-for-2 in save opportunities and has not allowed a run since June 17 against the Rangers.

Impact Merrifield singled to lead off the bottom of the second and went on to score the first of two runs for Toronto in the inning. He then came right back in his next at-bat and crushed a hanging changeup from Zac Gallen over the left field wall to lead off the fourth, putting the Blue Jays back on top 3-2. The second baseman has been highly efficient at the plate this month and now has recorded two hits in five of his last seven games. Four of his six home runs on the season have also come in July.

Chris Bassitt - Earns win in bumped up start Bassitt (9-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out five.
Impact Bassitt was able to pitch his way out of jams for most of the afternoon while filling in for Kevin Gausman (left side discomfort) on short notice, with the exception of the fourth inning where he allowed four consecutive hits with two outs, which led to two runs coming across for Arizona. Those would be the only two runs he'd allow in the contest as the right-hander went on to secure his ninth win of the season. The 6-foot-5 veteran has won his last two decisions (spanning four starts) despite allowing at least six hits in each of his last three starts and currently holds a 14:1 K:BB in July. Bassitt has also gone at least six innings in three of his last four outings.

Hyun Jin Ryu - Looks good again in rehab start Ryu (elbow) struck out five over five innings of one-run ball in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Ryu threw 66 pitches -- 46 of which went for strikes -- while yielding three hits and no walks. This was the veteran left-hander's first start with Buffalo after he allowed a total of just one run over seven innings in starts with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays and Low-A Dunedin. Ryu will need another rehab start in order to continue building up his pitch count, but that might be the final one before he rejoins Toronto's rotation.
