Whit Merrifield - Runs wild in Friday's win Merrifield went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three stolen bases in Friday's 4-0 win over the Pirates.
Impact The 34-year-old made life miserable for Pittsburgh catcher Austin Hedges every time he reached base, swiping third after a fourth-inning double then taking second and third after a sixth-inning single. Merrifield is still looking for his first homer of the year, but that's about the only blemish on his line to begin his first full season as a Blue Jays -- he's slashing .301/.356/.398 with 10 RBI, 11 runs and seven steals in eight attempts through 26 games.

George Springer - Ends homer drought Springer went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 4-0 win over the Pirates.
Impact His fifth-inning blast off Rich Hill capped the scoring on the night, and it also took a huge weight off Springer's shoulders, ending an 18-game homer drought for the 33-year-old outfielder. He slashed just .156/.229/.172 in 70 plate appearances over that stretch, but it was only a matter of time before his luck began to turn -- on the season, Springer is still in the 72nd percentile in Barrel rate and 98th percentile in max exit velocity, per Statcast.

Chris Bassitt - Blanks Bucs for fourth win Bassitt (4-2) picked up the win in Friday's 4-0 victory over the Pirates, allowing four hits and four walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out five.
Impact The veteran right-hander's control continues to waver a bit, as Bassitt has issued at least three free passes in five of his last six starts, but at least on Friday they didn't come back to haunt him. After a disastrous Toronto debut that saw the Cardinals take him deep four times, he has a 2.45 ERA, 1.06 WHIP 33:20 K:BB over his last 36.2 innings, serving up only two homers during that stretch. Bassitt will look to keep rolling in his next outing, likely to come next weekend at home against Atlanta.
