Blow to Championship Hopes Blaney ran into problems and finished 28th in the South Point 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon. Impact Blaney's championship hopes suffered a blow Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Penske Racing star would lead 39 laps and be running second-place with 40 laps to go when something broke in his No. 12 Ford. Blaney would slide way up the track and make contact with the outside wall and then spin hard into the inside wall. The team would pit Blaney and make repairs, but he'd finish 7 laps down to the leaders in 28th-place. Blaney drops to seventh-place in the playoff points heading to Homestead next weekend.
