Impact Trautman only needed the minimum of three games to return from a MCL sprain that landed him on injured reserve. However, he ultimately tied Nick Vannett with 57 percent of the playing time while Juwan Johnson (36) saw a healthy amount of snaps as well. Considering Trautman regularly topped 80 percent pre-injury, it wouldn't be a surprise to see his opportunities rise down the stretch.

Off injured reserve The Saints activated Trautman (knee) from injured reserve Saturday.

Impact Trautman spent the minimum three games on IR after spraining his MCL during a Week 11 loss at Philadelphia. Now that he's back on the active roster, he'll assume No. 1 TE duties Sunday in Tampa Bay, which translated to between 53 and 88 percent of offensive snaps in his 10 appearances prior to the injury. However, it didn't show up in the box score often to the tune of 25 catches (on 40 targets) for 241 yards on the receiving end of passes from Jameis Winston and Trevor Siemian. Trautman has yet to be targeted by the Saints' current starting QB, Taysom Hill, on the campaign.

Impact Trautman landed on IR after he suffered an MCL sprain during a Week 11 loss to the Eagles. He's missed the mandatory three games in order for him to be eligible to return to the active roster, but Trautman is no lock to be available for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay. At the time he suffered his injury, Trautman received an estimated recovery timeline of 4-to-6 weeks, so he'll need to demonstrate he's healthy in practice this week if he hopes to be activated for the short end of that window. New Orleans will need to decide whether or not to activate him for the Week 15 matchup no later than Saturday's 4 p.m. ET deadline for roster moves.

He's expected to need 4-6 weeks to make a full recovery from the injury, so the Saints will likely be without him until at least late December. Trautman's move to IR comes at a particularly unfortunate time, as he was just beginning to carve out a more pronounced role in the team's passing attack with six or more targets in each of the Saints' past four games. New orleans will likely lean on a committee of Nick Vannett, Garrett Griffin and Juwan Johnson to replace Trautman, with Johnson representing the best pass-catching option of the trio.

The tight end has taken on a heightened role in the passing game since Trevor Siemian came on in relief of injured starting quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) in Week 8, drawing no fewer than six targets in any of the Saints' last four games. Because New Orleans is facing a quick turnaround for Week 12 with a Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Bills, Trautman's listing on the injury report may just be an indication that the Saints plan to give him some extra maintenance. The Saints' Tuesday and Wednesday injury reports will provide a better idea whether or not Trautman is trending toward playing Thursday.

That brings Trautman up to 13 targets in under two games with Trevor Siemian after averaging 2.2 in just over six games with Jameis Winston (knee), who will miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL. While Winston technically had higher upside than Siemian as a passer, Trautman's outlook would obviously benefit much more from someone who will more frequently throw him the ball.
