Juston Burris - Minor hip injury Coach Matt Rhule said Tuesday that Burris is nursing a minor hip injury, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact Burris handled a starting role for the Panthers last season, with 53 tackles (34 solo), four pass breakups and one interception across 13 games. Rhule said Burris is expected back at practice in the next day or two, so it sounds like he should be ready for Sept. 12's season opener against the Jets.

Shi Smith - Out multiple weeks Coach Matt Rhule said Smith (shoulder) will be out at least 2-3 weeks, but the Panthers won't place him on injured reserve, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact Smith suffered the shoulder injury making a catch in the fourth quarter of the Panthers' preseason finale. The injury ended what was otherwise a promising preseason campaign from the sixth-round rookie as he looks to be a roster lock even with the setback. When healthy, he will likely slot in behind Terrace Marshall and David Moore as the No. 5 wideout in Carolina.
