Matt Kaskey - Suffers foot injury during opener Kaskey injured his foot during the Panthers' first preseason game Sunday against the Colts and didn't return, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Impact The 24-year-old was promoted to the Panthers' active roster in 2019, but he has rarely seen the field, as he has served primarily as a depth offensive lineman. With Kaskey and rookie Deonte Brown (ankle) both injured during the contest, Aaron Monteiro and Mike Horton took over the guard spots. The extent of Kaskey's injury is unknown.

Deonte Brown - Suffers ankle injury during opener Brown remained on the sidelines after injuring his ankle during the Panthers' first preseason game against the Colts, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Impact Brown was selected by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and was projected be the backup guard behind John Miller and Pat Elflein. With the rookie out of the game, Mike Horton and Aaron Monteiro took over the guard spots. The extent of Brown's injury is unknown.

Shi Smith - Makes tough catch in debut Smith caught his only target for 26 yards in Sunday's 21-18 preseason loss to the Colts.

Impact Smith, Carolina's sixth-round pick this year, impressed by holding onto his lone target while taking a big hit from the opposing safety along the sideline. That play not only gave Smith a highlight from his exhibition debut, but also set the Panthers up in the red zone ahead of their only touchdown of the game. That contribution should help Smith's chances of earning the team's fifth wideout job ahead of this season.

David Moore - Catches two passes Moore caught two of four targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 21-18 preseason loss to the Colts.

Impact Moore hauled in a couple of passes in his Panthers debut, but rookie Terrace Marshall's team-high three grabs for 88 yards evidenced why he's currently leading Moore to become the team's third wideout. Given his veteran status, however, Moore would represent a reliable fourth receiver behind DJ Moore, Robby Anderson and Marshall in that scenario.

Impact Tremble, Carolina's third-round pick, hauled in a seven-yard pass from P.J. Walker to extend the Panthers' lead in the second quarter. With both projected starter Dan Arnold and veteran Ian Thomas not suiting up, Tremble took advantage of his first opportunity to take the field, giving him decent momentum in his quest to edge Thomas for snaps behind Arnold as a rookie.
