Over 130 yards from scrimmage Hubbard rushed 24 times for 101 yards and caught five of six targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Eagles Impact Hubbard played very well in his second NFL start in place of the injured Christian McCaffrey (hamstring). The rookie fourth-rounder began with a 26-yard rush in the first quarter and kept his momentum going with a number of nice gains afterward, tying for the team lead in receptions as well. Overall, his play earned him nearly 30 touches on the day, mimicking McCaffrey's usual workload while backup Royce Freeman was restricted to just four touches. While it was great to see Hubbard take advantage of his opportunity Sunday, the seemingly likely return of McCaffrey in Week 6 versus the Vikings could suddenly return Hubbard to second-string duty. Given his production, though, Hubbard's presence could potentially help Carolina manage McCaffrey's exposure upon his return, making the team's backfield situation worth monitoring further going forward.
