Impact Hubbard was handed a decent workload despite Christian McCaffrey finishing with 29 touches. However, Hubbard playing a quarter of Carolina's 76 overall offensive snaps came partially as a result of McCaffrey missing a couple drives while dealing with cramps, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports. After hardly getting anything going with his carries Sunday, Hubbard will hope to make a bigger impact if called upon in Thursday's upcoming game versus the Texans.

The rookie fourth-rounder could struggle to see the field as long as superstar Christian McCaffrey is healthy, but it's at least encouraging that he hauled in a couple of passes in his brief involvement Sunday.

Impact Hubbard took back kickoffs in his freshman season at Oklahoma State and will now apparently be given the opportunity in his opening NFL campaign. That role would give Hubbard extra chances to flash his big-play ability, as Christian McCaffrey's presence atop the tailback depth chart could restrict his offensive snaps. Carolina's recent signing of Royce Freeman gives Hubbard fresh veteran competition to back up McCaffrey as well, so it'll be interesting to see how the team's backfield plays are divided early on.

Impact Hubbard started at tailback and led the Panthers in touches, but a dropped pass put a small damper on his evening. Impact Hubbard played nearly half of Carolina's offensive snaps, leading the team's skill-position players in touches. In the process, he again flashed his big-play ability, going for 29 yards on a reception during the first quarter. That, of course, came after Hubbard ripped off a 59-yard run in his preseason debut. It wasn't all pretty for Hubbard on Saturday, though, as he couldn't punch in two handoffs from the one-yard line to begin the game, and then fumbled later on. The Panthers fortunately recovered his miscue, but Hubbard nonetheless will be eager to cement his role as Christian McCaffrey's backup with a strong overall showing in Friday's preseason finale versus the Steelers.
