Shows chops as deep threat Sunday Slayton caught three of seven targets for 65 yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Broncos.

Impact The third-year receiver did most of his damage on the Giants' opening drive, hauling in a 42-yard pass from Daniel Jones, but Slayton was mostly quiet after that. Sterling Shepard was Jones' primary option in this one, with Kenny Golladay posting similar numbers to Slayton, and 2021 first-round pick Kadarius Toney should also factor into the mix eventually after a shaky NFL debut. That will likely leave Slayton dependent on big plays for his production, but big plays could be hard to come by in Week 2 as the Giants head to Washington for a Thursday night tilt.

Impact Most of the Giants' receiving corps tended to injuries during Week 1 prep, including WRs Golladay and Kadarius Toney (hamstring) and TEs Evan Engram (calf), Kyle Rudolph (foot) and Kaden Smith (knee). However, all of them but Engram will be available Sunday, ensuring Slayton will be in his customary third receiver role. Through two pro campaigns, Slayton has averaged six targets per game, which has resulted in 98 catches, 1,491 yards and 11 touchdowns in 30 appearances.

Impact Slayton limped to the sideline and had his left ankle taped during the first half of Sunday's preseason loss to the Patriots. He was deemed questionable to return and never made it back, with the Giants saying afterward that the wideout would be evaluated Monday. It seems Slayton avoided a serious injury, but the Giants still may be a bit nervous given their other injury woes at wide receiver. Kenny Golladay (hamstring), Kadarius Toney (undisclosed) and John Ross (hamstring) all have been missing practice of late, leaving oft-injured Sterling Shepard as the only guy who has enjoyed a healthy summer. It does seem all of them, including Slayton, have a shot to be ready for Week 1 against Denver.

Impact Slayton's yards per target dropped from 8.8 in 2019 to 7.8 in 2020, and he made fewer big plays despite an extra 12 targets. He also dropped five passes after not dropping a single one as a rookie. Slayton is still the Giants' best deep threat, and he should be more productive if the offensive line gives Daniel Jones -- or whoever is under center in 2021 -- more time to look down the field.
