Finds new home The Bears claimed Carter off waivers Wednesday, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports.

Impact Carter was waived by the Texans on Tuesday, and he didn't have to wait long to find a new team. The Sacramento State product has been effective in the return game this season, averaging 8.7 yards on 11 punt returns and 20.8 yards on 12 kickoff returns with the Texans. Since Tarik Cohen suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 against the Falcons, the team has used three different punt return men, so Carter could slot into that role as early as Week 12 with the Bears on their bye week.

Impact The 27-year-old was removed from his duties as the kick returner and split punt returns with Will Fuller during Sunday's loss to the Browns, and the Texans decided to part ways. C.J. Prosise handled kickoff returns in his place. Carter has one catch for eight yards, returned 12 kickoffs for 250 yards and 11 punts for 96 yards in nine games this season.

Impact The Texans cut back on Carter's duties on special teams, replacing him completely on kickoffs while having wide receiver Will Fuller share the punt return duties. Carter returned one punt for nine yards in the loss.

Main kick returner in opener Carter returned three kickoffs for 66 yards and one punt for 19 yards in Thursday's 34-20 loss to the Chiefs in Week 1.

Impact Carter served as the fifth wideout, a slot that came down to him or Keke Coutee, who was inactive. Carter also played 13 snaps on offense and caught one of two targets for eight yards, but he's not expected to move the needle on offense unless there's an injury.
