Kurt Benkert - Elevated to active roster Benkert was elevated from the Packers' practice squad to their active roster Tuesday as a replacement for Jordan Love (COVID-19 protocols).
Impact Jordan Love tested positive for the virus and was placed in protocols Monday, opening up an opportunity for Benkert to join the active roster. With Aaron Rodgers dealing with a fractured toe, Benkert may be in line to take most of the first-team reps during practice. However, Rodgers is still expected to be the starter while Benkert operates as the backup on game day. Green Bay also signed quarterback Danny Etling to the practice squad as an emergency option.

Za'Darius Smith - Hoping to return in Week 14 Coach Matt LaFleur said Monday that the Packers are hopeful Smith (back) can return in Week 14, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.
Impact Smith has been sidelined since the first week of the season and underwent back surgery at the end of November, but the Packers have remained optimistic that he will be able to return this season. When asked if Smith will be available in Week 14, LaFleur said, "certainly we hope so," and "we'll see where we're at on Wednesday." So, while there continues to be optimism surrounding a potential return against the Bears on Sunday Night Football, there likely won't be any official update to Smith's status until Wednesday at the earliest.

Impact Rodgers' comments about his improving health offers some reassurance that he'll be in less pain during the Packers' Week 14 game against the Bears, but as he acknowledges, the toe injury likely won't be resolved completely until he receives some extended rest. Even so, Rodgers opted to forgo surgery during the bye week to address the injury, hoping that he'll be able to play through the issue for the rest of the regular season and playoffs before likely going under the knife at some point over the offseason. Even while presumably playing with his toe at less than 100 percent following his return from an absence Week 9 due to a positive COVID-19 toe, Rodgers performed at a high level over the Packers' final three games prior to the bye week. Between wins over the Seahawks and Rams and a road loss to the Vikings, Rodgers completed 64.3 percent of his throws for 984 yards and a 6:1 TD:INT while contributing 29 yards and another score on the ground.
